I know some of you have said you had this problem, and I know I used to.

When your putting your rabbit down after holding them, and especially when your putting them back in their cage, they anticipate being put down, struggle and jump and invariably land awkwardly!!

        SOLUTION: Da da duh dun!!

Turn the bunny around so he/she is facing you and put them down backwards! They can’t see where they are going so they don’t leap out of your hands! Woohoo!

I do that with my piggies … there is no way I can pick up Luey unless I want to get scratched to death!

I was taught a method of covering their eyes when putting them down but I suppose this works too.

yes i have to hold hopscotch backwards to put him in his hutch because otherwise he leaps out my arms, although what i did start doing was waiting until he climbed into his litter tray then pick the whole tray up and switch it with the one in his hutch then i have no scratches or jumping!

I have been practicing pick up’s a lot.

I tell them “down” right before I put them down. Sometimes they do & sometimes they don’t struggle.

I am so going to try this today! Thanks.

Oh isn’t that the truth.  I’m afraid Edson will break his back sometimes so I hold him really tight when I put him down.  I guess the question is how do you put them down backwards! That must take some maneuvering!

It’s kinda easy if you have them up against your chest. You just ‘slide’ them down your chest, lifting the bum with the hand supporting it already then slip your other hand under the chest of the bun.

Well I’ll have to give that a shot. Mimz can really launch when he knows he’s headed for his cage. When it comes to going into the xpen, it’s no problem because I can hold him until I am inches from the floor.
How does one keep the back legs from catching on the cage door bars, however? I know Mimz, he’ll want to scrabble as he feels himself being lowered and I don’t want him hooking the bars and either getting his legs caught or using that as a springboard to make a break for it.
Going to try the eye covering thing too…don’t know why I didn’t think of it earlier, as that’s how you calm down horses too.

….I found out with big buns you just let them go in all by themselves and once they are in and the door shut then give them their papya…It is the only thing ive goten them to do for me…works well…..

that’s a great tip! i still try to avoid carrying or picking up Meadow at all unless necessary, but if i have to, i’ll keep that in mind.

K&K&R… i think you missed your calling… computer graphic design. lol…
