So im noticing ive been spoiling my little guy too much, ive given him so many treats he doesnt eat his pellets or his hay now, should i not give him treats for the next few days. Is that being mean? I bought him sum romaine lettece today so im giving him that instead of carrots, and celery now, along with his pellets and hay. Ive also tried stuffing the hay in toilet paper rolls to make it fun for him, but it doesnt seem to be helping

oh ohhh what kind of treats you mean fruit and carrot those should be no more than 3x a week and a small sliver since very high in sugars the treats can be romaine parsley celantro much healthier and can give everyday but not so much that bun won’t eat it’s hay. he may be stubborn and beg a lot but you have to be more stubborn for buns health and not give in.

Oh, those treats aren’t good either – I would make slivers of carrots his treat, but just slivers.

Most any treat you find at a pet store are not really good for bunnies.

I would also try parsley instead of celery – celery isn’t the best vegetable you can give him and those stringy parts are not good.

I would also recommend small amounts of fresh herbs like dill or mint or basil as treats too.

I’m glad you are trying to feed him better.

I don’t believe in giving my bunny treats … he does not need them … just a good ol healthy diet of greens, hay, pellets and water is all he needs. What he doesn’t get … he doesn’t miss. And I have no probs with poopy butt either.

I would cease the treats … that way if your bunny is hungry he will eat his greens, pellets and hay.

I know I am a mean bunny mum but it is for my bunny’s health.  My opinion anyways.

Hello you shouldnt really give rabbits sugar treats i would stick just to the carrot and apple or the tinest bit of banana for treats

And just stick with hay, pellets, greens and hay

                  Pearl =]

i was confused by treats at first too.  i love having my rabbit beg me for something, so i thought, “oh this is so great, let’s feed her lots of treats!”  but that’s not the way to go about it.  it’s more important that now he develop better eating habits, and since you are “in charge” you have to be the one to restrict the treats.  as was said, skip the petstore treats.  they are way too high in sugar.

this is the treat section from the diet info page, note the pictures and how small the amounts are… https://binkybunny.com/Default.aspx?tabid=60

Minimal Treats (3 x week) – Natural treats are healthiest.

This is an “or” list.  Only one of these treats at a time:

                    • Very thin sliver of apple
                    • A few strands of shredded carrots.
                    • 1 – 2  raisins
                    • Thin banana slice
                    • 1/4 medium sized strawberry

                    DIETtreats.jpg

                    Keep amounts small as shown

NOTE: This is based on adult rabbit needs. (1-5 years old) Please check out http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/diet.html#babies for your baby, teen or senior bunny’s diet requirements.

another thing… if you want to really feed him something by hand, try offering him bits of his veggie or some hay pieces by hand. like i said, i love it when Meadow takes stuff from my hand, and that way you know you’re giving something good.
