My bunnies must be part beaver or something because they chew through everything I give them. toilet paper/paper towel rolls, cereal boxes, brown packaging paper, cardboard, you name it, they chew it. i can’t keep up with the supply end sometimes! their teeth must get quite a workout. i want to buy one of those wooden hide-a-way huts, but i’m afraid they’ll reduce it to woodchips in no time at all and there goes my $20. Is there some material thats tough enought to last and still safe short of the hope diamond? LOL

LOL!  My “Cookie” is also a chewer.  She sounds a lot like ur rabbit.  I however did get “Cookie” one of those hideaways.  Made of edible stuff for rabbits.  But it’s suprisingly sturdy.  She’s had it for about 3 weeks and it still looks basically the same.  Just a few teeth marks on it!   But I purchased mine from Wal’Mart. It was only about $5.  And she absolutely loves it!  If your buns chews as much as u say I would definately reccomend a cheaper version, like the Wal’mart kind.  That way if she chews it up fast, then u won’t have to spend as much money to replace it, or if it lasts for a long time then you know u can get a more expensive “cuter” hideaway.  But Honestly I think Cookie likes to play in her’s more than chew on it.

I have to admit, I’d much rather my bunnies chew the toys than the furniture

My bunnies looooove the willow tents and tunnels and they last for months with my three.

We also often use them with Rabbit Haven bunnies and they’re always a favorite.

i love the willow toys on this site. the willow tastes very yummy to the buns (yummier than cardboard) and i can usually bring one out as a distraction from something else. it costs money to buy the stuff (altho BB seems to be cheaper than most of the other places) but once you see the enjoyment your buns get, it’s all worth it.

Do you have access to an organic, no-pesticide apple tree? I would suggest some larger-sized apple branches for the rabbit-become-beaver like my two. They go over almost, but not nearly as well as the willow. The edible huts I don’t putchase as some of the ingredients are not all that rabbit-friendly and if they eat too much of it, it is not the best for them.

I have several willow pieces, the tent and tunnel.  I also hang some of the willow toys throughout their cage for chewing.  I find that the willow lasts much longer than cardboard.  Only the edges of my tunnel get gnawed on.  I figure Jessi can keep going until there’s no tunnel left…but that would be quite some time.   I definately think something sturdier than cardboard will last a while.  Remember that cardboard also gets affected by the moisture of saliva.  Trigger (RIP my boy) used to chew any & everything, including his plastic litterbox.  He loved the giant construction cardboard tunnel I got him.  It was the kind they use to cast cement…can you cast cement or is it mold or set?  Anyway a huge tunnel was only about $8.  It is a thick cardboard, so very durable.  You can get them at a hardware store.
