Okay well it seems huge to me!!  We saw it this morning hopping around across the street – it’s been going back and forth along there all morning and then I just noticed that it’s resting comfortably on our lawn!!  Scooter is going to be soo upset that he’s at work and missed this!

Not only is it bigger than any of our buns, and our cats, it’s bigger than my cousin’s dog!

How are you in Edmonton with no snow?!?!? LOL. I’m in Fredericton with 4 feet + outside!

L_L – the snow is slowly but surely melting – on the other side of the lawn there’s still a bunch!

babybunsmom – yep the white is the winter coat. You can see some brown on it so the summer coat is starting to come in.

I couldn’t believe that it had just snuggled in like that!

The jackrabbit has reappeared and back in the same spot as we speak. It didn’t pay much attention to us as we came up our front porch to go inside.

As Scooter said, we walked right past him, within a few feet of him, and although he looked a little cautious he didn’t run off. And he’s still there.

I managed to take some video of him earlier. Unfortunately our camera doesn’t have a zoom for the video function, so it’s a little distant.

Heh, he must know you’re bunny people. Wonder what would happen if you put out a cardboard box with some doors cut in it next to that tree…

babybunsmom: As far as we can tell, the jackrabbit is in perfect health and has been hopping back and forth between our house, the neighbors’, and two houses across the street all day. And when it was across the street it basically looks like a lump of snow. Passersby don’t seem to notice it in our front yard, even a little girl who would otherwise have pointed “look a bunny!” to her parents. And our cats are on the cat stands staring at it.

He’s also scraped most of the grass away from that spot and has made himself a nice little dirt bed, and looks to be quite comfy! He’ll stay there a while and rest and then zip around the area for a little bit, then come back. I’d love to get some video of him running around.

hmmm, if you have a nice enough yard, you might be havin’ some baby jackrabbits in a couple of months…

OMG it’s huge! Are you sure it’s wild? And not a domestic that someone has dumped outside?

Hard for me to tell from the video. We don’t see many jack rabbits here in Ontario, just cottontails, and they don’t get that big!

we don’t have many jackrabbits here either but the ones I see aren’t that big.

I’m not sure of any domestic breeds that actually change color during the seasons. But I could be COMPLETELY wrong too.

Definitely wild, you see them all over Edmonton. I think I’ve still got white bunny fluff on the lawn from the shedding, lol.

The first time I saw one in the winter was at a parking lot by the airport. My first thought was omg was a strange looking dog! And then I realized whoa wait a minute, that’s one of those monster jackrabbits!

Scooter tells me they’re all over the University grounds so he’s quite used to seeing them there.

Sorry I haven’t been around to respond sooner, Scooter’s been in the hospital for a few days now and I’ve been spending most of my time there.
