okay so me and my sis let our bunnies outside to play, and one found a hole under the shed and has been under there for about 5 hours. its really dark and cold, so we had to go in. we put food by the hole, and yeah. WHAT DO I DO???? its -4 degrees celcius HELP i dont want her to freeze
oh dear. poor poor bunny.
another good reason not to let bunnies outside… there are just too many possible risks. i’m not sure there is much you can do but wait for your bunny to get hungry & come out. does your bunny get especially excited for any kind of treats, like raisins, that you could temp her with? i really don’t know what temps bunny’s can tolerate, but i do know that since your bun is an indoor pet she will not have a coat developed that can keep her warm enough.
please make sure some one stays outside for when your bunny does come out so she’s not all alone.
we have been going out like every 10 min, and no no treats she likes. she comes when i call her name, but then leaves
When we have a problem catching a bun we throw a blanket over them and it seems to stop them in their tracks. Can you get her to pop out and then throw a blankey over her and grap her while she fumbles trying to get out?
I have found that rabbits are like mice-they can squeeze themselves into any hole they can find.
no she wont come out, she comes right to the edge and is soooo scared. my parents say to block the shed so she stays inside, and stays warm, but i d k. i dont want her to freeze over night.
Do you have a pet carrier? Put that with the door open against the hole of the shed, include food and a blanket.
WOOT i got her. what i did was stuck my arm under the shed pretending it was part of the wall *floor bord* then when she got close enough i closed her in between the wall and my arm, then pulled her out. YEAH never doin that again. 6 hours of that. o m g
glad it turned out ok!
Glad you got her! How’s the baby?
hi Panic. i’m glad she’s safe. does she look alright, no scratches or cuts or anything? i’d be very scared that if you were not able to get her out, some other animal would go down there and that could have been a huge disaster. i’m wondering why you guys are still letting them outside, especially if it is so cold and dangerous? and i think you had a problem before where one of the buns ripped a nail off or something. your backyard doesn’t sound like it’s very safe for them. domestic rabbits are not like dogs where they can run over all kinds of rough terrain without a problem. i’m glad she is safe this time, but i’m worried about what’s gonna happen next time. i think you should reconsider what you guys have been doing.
Panic I’m glad to hear your bunny is OK.
Do you think you will be taking your bunny outside again? Or maybe inside is the safest place for her ? What do you think you’ll do now so that doesn’t happen again?
there are rabbit harnesses you can use too. I use the string type kind the jacket kind 2 of mine got out of. jsut be sure and put it on tight so they can’t pull their legs out some can. but not so tight they can’t breathe. yeah I would be real scared too no next time without harness or no next time at all careful there they are fragile
if used in the wrong conditions or incorrectly, a harness is dangerous too. the rabbit can choke or get tangled up very easily. i would consider making an indoor play area for them. no more outside. really. i’m just saying this b/c it is seeming that emergency situations are arising often.
phew! thank goodness you were able to get her out!!! how is she doing now? is she eating & pooping?
it was a beautiful day, like up to 10 degreese (celcius) but it went to 12:00 am, and the tempurature started dropping. shes fine XD just a little shook up. no scratches, no broken nails, and was hungery. my dad said hed promiss to block off the area, but for now, shes stayin inside. besides the shed, there arnt any places they can get under. just trees and grass. the fence is low to the ground, so NO way they can dig their way out, cuz we watch them. when they are outside, we make sure the dogs are in. we had leashes for our bunnies, but they’d just sit, and try to eat them of, so it just distracts them. im thinking of trying again tho. Thanks for ur guys help ^.^
im also thinking of making a fenced off area in mhy backyard so that shes limited to were she can go but not too limited. just safe
I am very glad to hear you were able to get her out and that she seems to be ok. It sounds like it was pretty scary.
Please understand that there are many dangers to rabbits being outside. I have a friend who routinely let her bunnies play in her enclosed side yard. She was inside taking a shower for about 15 minutes and came out to find her beloved bunny had been murdered by a raccoon. It is just not worth the risk! Even a bird of prey could swoop down and get one of your bunnies.
This thread is making me seriously reconsider taking Mimzy (and maybe Pip) outdoors this summer. Granted we have a fabulous setup for them out there, but between the idea that they could dig under the Bun-Galow or it’s fence and escape…well, between that and the mozzies, I thinkit just may not be worth it. Plus they’ve been indoors all winter and their coats are thin, as was mentioned also, and I just can’t see taking the chance.
Lots to think about….Yup.
Wow. thats sad. OOOH now that i think about it, my really old friend had her buns running around, and one got eaten by a fox. o.o i totaly forgot about that. maybe i will stick to putting her cage outside for fresh air, and making a play place inside for my bun. XD thanks guys
I have a huge fear of my buns getting flees or some other kinda bugs from outside during the summer. Thats all we would need-treating 4 buns for flees! That would be awful.
A friend told me she had gotten hay from a local farm that was infested w/ flees and then her buns got them, and then when she would help bond other buns they got the flees, and passed them on…. it was a huge mess. ![]()
I would agree that it is really best to keep your bunnies indoors, there are the predator animals, insects, and all other kinds of danger that the bunnies can get into outside. Is there a reason that you let them have their playtime outside instead of inside? Do they still have some bad habits that you need some help correcting before you can let them play inside?
o.o omg. i didnt no they could get flees from outside *gasp*
Oh please they could get fleas from hay? That would be the worst.
tell me bout it.
yeah my bunny STILL pees in he cage, and not in her litter box. i move it to were she does, but then she changes. she also likes to chew. v.v
help . *haha srry*
I know that when I work in the garden, I sometimes bring a cat out w/ me. I’m very paranoid, so I leash and harness them. Low and behold, Wolfgang figured out a way to wrangle out of the harness and headed right for the animal super highway ( major break in my neighbors wall that all the neighborhood animals & wildlife use it to access the next block that is higher than where our yards are located). I was freaked out! It scared the crap out of me…so Wolfy has never been out again.
I know that I have seen cat play pens & tunnells that are completely covered so the cat can get the fresh air w/o being open to predators, etc. I’ve seen them in pet catalogs, online pet stores, and ebay. Just a thought if you want them to be out in the air w/ you. Another thing are ticks!
thanks XD
