        Hey Y’all

I went to Nancy LaRoche’s (from The Colorado HRS) Bunny Tune-Up Class on Saturday. It was awesome!

So much information about Monthly Maintenance for bunnys, why and how to do it all. Then we actually did all of thoes fun things with our bunnys – you know like checking their teeth & cleaning scent glands.

I also feel much more confidant about picking up & handeling the buns.

Not that the bunnys suddenly like being picked up – but . . .

I’m going to take a wild guess that not all the HRS branches offer such a class.   But if any one gets the opertunity to take such a class – I highly recomend it.

I did realize that both my buns have lost weight since I adopted them a month ago. Kay has lost 5 ounces & Winston has lost 4 ounces. I am going to up their pellets from a 1/3 of a cup to a scant 1/2 cup – they share that amount.

As you can see, Kay has given up reminding Winston to keep his paws off the table during meals!

I have a question you might be able to answer…I’ve heard people ask why we have to clean the anal glands…Obviously because it needs doing but is there another reason they gave you? I’d love to be able to answer next time! Some people say, well I’ve never done it before and they are fine so… you know?

Yes, we did talk about why!

It is a tough spot for the bunny’s to clean themselves. Some bunny’s produce a lot of, um, stuff there – And if they don’t get cleaned it can stink! Bad for every one.

Also if the, um, stuff, gets kind of crusty – it can cause irratation for the bunny and then bunny licks and scratches possibly causing an infection.

A little aloe vera gel will soften the stuff – making it very easy to clean and aloe vera is soothing for the bunny.

I could use a bunny tune up class. Maryann’s just reached her 5,000 binky warrenty limit.

LOL Markus you’re too cute! Sage_Cat I am so very glad that you enjoyed the class as much as I was hoping you would! That’s great and thank you for sharing your experience too! Unfortunately not all rabbit rescue chapters offer this type of opportunity and I sure wish they did!

Also, if the scent glands are not cleaned and it begins to hurt, the rabbit may also pull out fur around that area.
