Well here’s a strange…most of you know how I’ve had trouble keeping Pip from chewing her litter box. (We’re going to look for different kinds of plastic boxes for her.) So last night, while letting her into the xpen, I happened to have one of those Snapple 12 pack boxes (I love their peach tea) that had broken open and I figured, “Eh, what the heck, give it to the bun to play with.”

She instantly took to hiding in it. She spent most of the evening in there, and would even pull her hay manger close to it so that she could eat without being seen. (Mimzy was not in the pen with her, btw.)

I let my daughter take the box in to place in Pip’s habitat to see what she would do with it. Not a peep out of her all night! She slept in the box and didn’t chew her litter box one bit!

Of course, she likes to chew on the inside of the box. My question is, can the coloring on the Snapple box be harmful to her? Would anyone be able to tell me where I would find the information on the inks they use on their boxes?

From this I have concluded that she really does feel exposed in her night pen (it doesn’t have a shelf area to hide under, like Mimzy’s does and I can’t find aftermarket ones) and probably chews because she is nervous. I can’t put cloths over the pen because she eats those too. I am probably going to have to make her a little ‘house’ to hide in while she’s in there…not quite sure what to make it out of though. :-/

Hi Mimz!  Boy I had fun playing on their web site, it is really neat!!! http://www.snapple.com/default.htm#page=1

You can write them and ask about the inks that they use and if they are soy-based.

          http://www.snapple.com/default.htm#page=contactUs||Id^contactUs^^Type^overlay^^Src^swf/ContactUsContentWindow.swf^^

I’m going to see if I can find any more info elsewhere. — UPDATE I didn’t find anything.  I think you’re going to have to write them and ask.

That’s great you’ve solved the problem of no place to hide and feel secure.

OH yes it was really cool! I spent a long time there and I’m like oops, I better let you know I didn’t find anything before I got lost in there. LOL If you click on a city it will take you on a virtual tour and…well it’s really neat!

Cool! ^^ Unfortunately, with my dial-up, my computer is freezing before I can get the site to load for me. Well I am planning on making something for Pip to sleep in that gives her the same comforts, now that I know this is what she needs, so she won’t be munching on the box for too long.

How about a plain paper grocery sack?

lolz…Do they still make those? ^^
I tried paper bag toys (like the ones listed in the bunny toy section here) for Mimzy, he was just so terrified of it that he huddled over on the other side of his pen. I felt terrible, so I took all the treats out and threw the bag away. *sigh*
I’ll have to give that a shot. Thanks Scarlet! ^^

those type of boxes are the best. truffles has a blue moon 12 pack box that is one of his favorite resting places (he is hiding in it in my avatar ). there was a great article linked somewhere on here about safe cardboard and paper and how most everyone uses safe inks now. does anyone know what I’m talking about?

Awww…Truffles is so cute! ^^ I love how he’s just peeking out of the hole there.
I sure hope the inks are okay, Pippy loves it!

just a suggestion have you considered a glass cooking tray as i read that they can be used? or a metal one? isnt it cute how bunnies like the simple things whereas toys which cost like £5 they dont care for lol

Thanks Scarlet! ^^ Well that seems like it’s an okay thing for her to have then. I am sure it’s going to graduate to something else, probably more apropos, but for now, it works!
She actually doesn’t eat the box, she only gnaws pieces off and spits them out.
