        Last night I tranced Roger for the first time in my lap. I crossed my right leg over the knee of my left leg and placed him in the crook created in my lap. He quickly became tranced, his ears tucked behind my leg, insulating him from any noises, and just stroked his soft, furry chest. His eyes closed all the way and he layed there with his paws in the air.

        I didn’t want to have him startle awake and flip over so I thought I would ease him awake. I nudged him a little and started turning him onto his side so he wouldn’t have to flip – but he didn’t wake up! So I just let him lay there in my lap sleeping while I played World of Warcraft and he slept there for a good 15 minutes until he woke up and flipped back over and made an adorable little sound…!

        One of the best experiences I’ve ever had as a bunny owner! Unfortunately my camera was on the other side of the room, so no pics of the sleeping bun, but here is Roger, the black and white dutch below my other two:

        *bonus: notice that Brambles fell asleep with his mouth on the litter box…lol must have been comfortable I guess!

                Lago, are all three of your bunnies bonded?

                  Lagomorpheus,  do I even need to ask if your pet in WoW is a rabbit???      I am SO jealous of your trancing ability, I hope one day we can do the same with our three, but right now they are still hating the picking up and taking advantage of being in their “terrible twos”.  We are still working  on trying to bond them so that we can have a nice mulit layered cage set up like yours!

                    The bonding situation is as follows:

                    Brambles – Vicky ::YES-MUTUAL GROOMING::
                    Brambles – Roger ::YES-MUTUAL GROOMING::

                    Vicky X Roger – Vicky attacks Roger on sight, and has done so so many times he is now extremely wary of her. Roger, however is sweet and persistent, and approaches her with curious ears continuously. I am trying a variety of bonding exercises for them with little success so far. Once Brambles is fully back on his diet I plan on having group feeding with Brambles hopefully serving as a calm-inducing go-between for the two dutch camps.

                      Skwerly – yes, of course I have bunny pets in WoW – which can be difficult for Horde characters as the cheap snowshoe buns are in Alliance territory! Do you play?

                      Good luck with trancing your buns!

                        Lagomorpheus, I don’t play, but my hubby is an avid player with several different characters on different servers.  I was in the video game industry for nine years (doing artwork) and got kind of burned out on vid games plus my hubby and I would be fighting over who got to use the desktop with super large monitor lol!

                        I do love watching him play though, and one of the things he does is when he comes across a squirrel or bunny in the area he is in he stoops down and “pets” them.   One of his characters has a mechanical squirrel, and another has a bunny.

                          I remembered the topic of trancing came up a few months ago and I thought I remembered that Binky had mentioned that the feeling of being tranced is not fun for buns. Here is a copy of what she wrote back in May:

                          I am not aware the actual trancing is dangerous (I will ask a couple of vets), but trying to put a rabbit into a trance and a rabbit coming out of a trance can be dangerous if you are not prepared – the struggling can lead to dropping or some injury.

                          One of the things I have just recently learned(as I was researching this question further) is that trancing is not pleasurable for rabbits. It may help us clip nails and do things that we need to do for their health, but trancing is not recommended if you’re just trying to cuddle your rabbit.

                          I have been told this my a a couple of rabbit experts (including the owner of SaveABunny) as well as I have read this in the book “Why does my rabbit…” by Anne McBride. (pg 179)

                          I’m summarizing what was stated:

                          Basically they say that trancing is a prey response to being caught. It is stress or freeze behavior. So what we may interpret as a blissful relaxation as muscles relax and the heart rate decreases, it’s really a way to play dead, A rabbit is thoroughly awake and aware during the trance. This “playing dead” allows them to fool a predator so the predator will relax which may give the rabbit an opportunity to escape.

                          So ultimately, now I’m changing my tune regarding trancing – even if I confirm it is not physically dangerous,(I’ll keep you all updated with that) I will discourage trancing unless absolutely necessary.

                            He was sleeping…I swear…fell asleep in my hands last night too, just held him and stroked his head/ears and massaged the back of his neck until his eyes closed and he fell asleep. I stopped stroking and he kept sleeping…

                              He seemed genuinely relaxed, including when he woke up, didn’t struggle at all or try to run off.

                                My bunnies for sure don’t like it, but I did meet a big cuddly lop who absolutely loved to be carried in the trance position like a baby and have her tummy rubbed. I guess it depends on temperment. You can tell if they don’t like it as they will try to get out of the position, Kokanee will not under any circumstances trance for us; It is super helpful though to trance to do nails and anal glands!

                                  Cooper and Carrera will get up in my lap and lay down and sleep. But they stretch out w/ their little heads down. I pet, they sleep. lol
