        Hello,

A few months ago, I wrote about my trouble bonding my 2 neutered male bunnies, Dexter (siamese cat colored) and Simon (black).  I have a NIC “condo” made for Simon (he jumps out of XPens somehow) while Dexter is in an XPen in my 2nd bedroom, which is the pet/storage room now.  They each get at least 1-2hours of outside time in the room.  Dexter will follow SImon if Simon runs around his pen, grunting a few times.  But, both bunnies, after running and playing for a while, will end up sitting right next to the other and both look happy- they even groom each other through the bars of the XPen/NIC.  I haven’t tried letting them both out at the same time in a while, but the last time I did, they fought.  Can bunnies be happy with a neighbor/friend even if they aren’t in direct contact?

I’ve had Simon for a year, and Dexter for nearly 9 months and have tried all of the “tricks-” car rides, unfamiliar territory, etc and, while they don’t go at each other immediately, it always ends up with circling, grunting and fighting!  No one has been hurt, but I could make a sweater with all of the fur that has flown!

        Thanks!

i think the onlu way you are going to know is by trying, you cant guess if they will or wont fight, you just have to be on edge and ready to see how they react

My bunnies ,Bailey and Rucy, have finally come to terms with being friends – but only via the cage separation. They do fine with each other as long as they have a separation. They used to fight through the fence too, but I think they found it futile so they tolerated each other and use each other for warmth here and there when they lounge near each other. They have never groomed each other though, so hmmmm. That’s a good sign. Maybe you need to try a neutral ground for short periods of time  – five minutes at a time, and don’t let them get to the point that they start to show an aggression, so that the mini sessions can become a “friendly” habit.
