I wasn’t really sure where to post this. . .

Ok, so Missouri has a new proposed ban on “wild” animals. . . But their list of “wild” animals includes most birds and reptiles that people commonly keep as pets. . . The law does allow for people to keep the animals they currently have but only if they take out extra insurance in case their canary kills someone and only if they pay a fee each year to keep the pet. . .This one does not include rabbits, but it is only one very small step away from banning rabbits as pets IMO.

The bill does have a few good points. It does not allow anyone who has been charged with animal cruelty to ever posses one of these animals or keep the ones they currently have (this should be law IMO) and it requires that the animals keepers provide adequate care for the animals.

This law is actually pretty scary if you ask me. . . Here’s a link, it’s a petition, but it also has the text of the bill at the top of the page.

Your link isn’t working, however, I agree, that’s some bizzarre legislation. I know in MA we already have *very* strict pet laws, but… wow, nothing that bad. I’m sorry, if something is domesticated, it’s not a “wild animal,” even if wild versions of said animal exist. People are DUMB!
