I took him to the vet yesterday for a recheck for his bladder sludge. When I picked him up in the evening and the runner brought him out to me in his carrier he was stiff and didn’t look right – I had her rush him back to Dr. Effie. She stabilized him but he was still unable to move and really wasn’t responding. She did bloodwork and put a catheter in him and while he was there, he really wasn’t. She wanted to give him a chance before we made any rash decisions. She took him home to watch him and treat him. She said she woke up at 3am to try to hand feed him but he didn’t want anything. She said this morning he was gone.
She is going to do an autopsy on him to see if she can find out what was going on. I’m grateful that she tried to help him and went above and beyond the call of duty to take care of him last night.
Please light a candle for Panda so that he can cross the Rainbow Bridge and be whole again.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
I am missing my Spockie badly this morning. He went to the Rainbow Bridge early last December, but it still seems so recent.
Here is a link to a very lovely website where you can light a candle on line for Panda.

Oh Sarita I’m so sorry. How awful. Why on earth would they bring Panda out if he wasn’t completely checked out and ready to go home? That’s just so weird to me. Bless the little guy’s heart. I’m finding it much harder to read and hear about rabbits pain and suffering than other animals at the moment. I could not sleep last night because of the 29 rabbits rescued. I sometimes wish I hadn’t ventured into the rabbit world. Again Sarita I’m so sorry about Panda. ((((((lighting a candle!))))))
i’m so sorry sarita. (((((((((hugs for you))))))))) panda was a lucky bun to have you & dr effie looking out for him. (((((((((binky free panda)))))))))

Jeeez what awful news. So sorry. 🙁
awe I am so sorry Panda isn’t with you anymore I lost mine too had to make the big decision there is another site out there and has a piece about guilt if you want it let me know. awe Panda is out of pain now and hopping and binkying in beautiful meadows I know Panda loved you and you did your best so did Panda. Lets hope the vet finds out what was going on. and yes why would she let him go out if he wasn’t all well. that was so kind of her to take him home to try with him
***Hugs to you Sarita** Very sorry for the loss of your bunny. I feel your pain, sweetie.
I get tears in my eyes when I hear about anyone’s rabbits dying. It’s especially hard as I’m getting to know some of you and your buns. (Knowltons4- I too am very upset about the rescued rabbits).
They bring such great joy but it’s so hard to love such a fragile creature so much. Rabbits are just special.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s making me cry!!! My Roo is going through the same problems with sludge for the last 2 1/2 months. It doesn’t seem to be getting any better. She’s only 10 months old and I feel terrible. We’re going to the vet AGAIN today. We’ve given her SQ fluid daily and changed her diet with no major changes. Do you have any other advice from your experience? SORRY!!!
I’m soo sorry for your loss Sarita **HUGS**
Binky Free Panda!

Sorry to hear about Panda. Big big hugs. I found a really cute poem on the bunnybunch web site. It’s called ‘When bunnies pray’. Makes me smile… hope it makes you smile too : )

Oh Sarita, I am so sorry to hear this sad news! A huge hug for you and Panda! (((((((((((((((Sarita & Panda))))))))))))))
Another bunny angel joins the heavenly warren. Blessed binkies, little Panda! (teardrop)
EDIT: And WOW, I just read the “When Bunnies Pray” page…I’ve known the rainbow bridge poem for quite a number of years, but that one has me awash in tears! What a beautiful ‘bun’s eye view’ of their foremost hopes and dreams! I have to show this to my daughter, thanks for posting it!
Could someone tell me how the online candle works? I clicked ont he link, does that automatically light a candle for Panda? Thankies!
I lit one for Panda

I am so very sorry that you lost your bunny. Words can never express our feelings at these times, they just sound so hollow. All I can say is it is OK to grieve, take care of yourself, and try to remember Panda as he was when he was healthy and vibrant.
Binky free, little Panda. We’ll miss you.
Ohhhh sweet girl I am so sorry to hear about your Panda …. Lil sweet pudding . bless his cotton socks.
I’ll light a candle for him too.
Luey sends warm fuzzies your way.
Dawn xx

Thank you everyone for your kind words, candles and condolences.
Dr. Effie did the autopsy but cannot figure out what happened – she is going to talk to some of her colleagues.
I think it was a stroke myself – “locked-in syndrome” but there is no way to really know that unless you send the brain samples off and we aren’t going to do that. Not sure what would have caused the stroke though.
I think the seizure happened after they put him in the carrier to come home – he was fine all day in the cage at the vet.
Mimzmum,
Just click any of the candle links in my post or the others’ posts on page 1, and click the “Candles” button on the bottom of the screen once you’re in the site.
You select an unlit candle (you should see a page full of candles burning at different heights. Some are tall without a flame. Click one of those.) and follow their instructions.
Sarita,
It sounds like whatever it was hadn’t quite surfaced to be diagnosed in time. You did everything you could, and when the vet realized they were releasing him to you prematurely, I was glad she took him home with her to monitor him. They’re such sweet, delicate creatures that it’s hard to understand the subtle shifts in a body that small.
((((((Hugs)))))))
Sarita you have my deepest sympathy and condolences for the loss of Panda. I too have lit a candle for him and wish a safe passage over the Rainbow Bridge.
Here is the candle I lit if you wish to view it:

Thanks for the help, Pam. I too lit a candle, but forgot to snag the link. It’s there under my name though.
