I just checked my mail and saw that I had gotten my mini bales of hay in, so I decided to break open the oat hay for Holiday & Fiesta.

When I went into their room I noticed that Holiday had one of his ears down so I scratched it for him. He was THRILLED – so I scratched the other and his little back legs went nuts.

He couldn’t give me enough licks fast enough!

Both ears smell fine, no discharge that I can see, but he was definantly needing a good scratching (something he cant do on his own).

When I left the room his ears were up but now I’m concerned. I dont want to run to the vet over every little thing so is there anything I can/should do in order to make sure the ear health is ok?

Fiesta shows no signs of any ear discomfort at all.

I have a mini pocket flashlight that I use to peek down inside my bun’s ears once in a while to check for wax, redness, etc. If your bun will hold still you can see pretty far into the ear and check for any dirt, redness, scratches or debri from ear mites.

My lop scratches his ears a lot but there is nothing wrong with them. When he scratches all I hear is a loud “thump thump thump thump”. It sounds like he’s playing drums.

Awe too cute! Take a peek down his ears, if he isn’t scratching at them on his own, I think he is just fine. Is he shaking his head at all?

Awe those little darlings need their ears scratched!  How cute.  Can you imagine how hard it must be for them.  How are they doing anyway?

My buns always need a good ear scratch from time to time. It must be tough for them not being able to tell you anything – but how cute that you knew what to do for him! Some people have recommended doing a nice itch with a washcloth, I think the texture helps give them a good itch. I know that BinkyBunny’s bunny Bailey had some trouble with her hind legs, so she also had to scratch Bailey’s ears.

Pepper loves to have her ears skritched, and I also gently rub the ear between my thumb and fingers.  That’s a sure setup for tooth-purrs and lickings

Well, since I’ve been fostering Cupcake, my little tripod bunny, I have to scratch her ears for her too since she cannot do this – I also understand you will need to help clean these bunnies ears since they are not able too and they get the waxy buildup since they cannot clean them – I would ask the vet to show you how to do this so you don’t cause any damage – ask about products and how to clean them yourself.
