LOL I think most bunnies rush the cage when they are being fed!!

Yes yes and yes!!!! Edson acts the same way.  He is frantic for his pellets in the am and his salad at night!  He gets unlimited hay too.  He does these crazy contortions (sp?) and flips.  If I’m not there at 5:15am with pellets he goes bezerk!  Boy he has me trained. I think they are just food hounds.  He’s such a beggar. 

yup…  my buns are both super excited for their pellets & salad.  they have often knocked pellets flying out of the scoop trying to get to them.  lol.  baby is much more mellow about it but i notice i have to be more attentive to her hay consumptuion lately.  pinky eats hay like its her last meal everyday.  lol.  i think she’s still adjusting from her shelter pellet diet where she had very sparse veggies & hay.  i hope she’ll taper off soon.  she’s supposed to drop from 8lbs to 7lbs.  but when we weighed her last week when she got her nails trimmed she hadn’t lost anounce in 3 weeks  dispite the diet adjustment

Paper!  Edson thinks the paper from the Binky Bunny box is the greatest toy ever. He throws it and runs underneath it.  It is so funny.  I have a big basket I keep the critterberries and papaya tablets and other things in.  I put it on the floor to get to a box of hay and he went insane trying to climb in and get those berries out!  He finally got them and tore off into his cage and started throwing them around. Now of course I put this basket on the floor to amuse myself.  Sick.  And then he gets a treat for the franticness (new word) he goes through!  I never did this with my kids!

yep – my bunnies are being starved to death and no one EVER feeds them if you ask them. They’re funny they get SOOO excited for pellets in the morning, eat two bites and then flop for their morning nap

Absolutely, my two would have PETA and the ASPCA on speed dial if they had a phone installed in their condo. They ALWAYS think they are starving and try to wrangle a few treats out of me!

oh yes I had to be so careful cotton wouldn’t knock the pellet scoop outta my hand the papaya I givehim 2 from my hand andwhile he is chewing the first one I move my  hand away he goes bezerk til I put it back b4 he is done eating his first papaya then he gets his second when done chewing he thinks he won’t get the 2nd one or something so crazy they are oh and when I put  his vegies in he runs all over jumps on me digs and smooths my shirt licks it til I get up and get his papaya ahaaa. crazy boy my back was a hurting last nite so he had to wait oh was he impatient heheee. he kept digging at my shirt  he sure is demonstrative they know

Not only does Snuffy try to lead us to her pellets and point out that her bowl is empty ALL the time, she will toss it around her cage when she’s finished her daily allotment of pellets to tell us that the bowl is empty again. And Ollie attacks food like he hasn’t eaten in days regardless of the fact that he’s done nothing but eat hay all day long. I think they’re all the same! LOL! And even if my husband gives them the morning veggies they act like they never got them until they get them from me. Little piggies!

Oh Luey goes nuts when its feed time.  He is always waiting for me at his pen gate in the morning for his pellets.  He races around his pen and through his box and does these little head flicks  … so cute!

Sprinkles would jump up at the wall when it was pellet time.  She was a nutcase.

yes hopscotch is the same! it makes me laugh more when he does it to hay because he has stuff in his hutch all the time and i top it up everyday but when i give him more when he is running around he behaves like ‘what the f*ck is this?’ and then he eats some and he is like ‘mmmh its like nothing ive ever tasted!’ and i cant help but think ‘you jest me you have hay there allllllllll the time!’

I can’t leave pepper alone with any food, even if it’s stored in a box with a lid, she always gets in.  She loves her food too much!  And when she gets caught, she doesn’t care.

lornatrae… cute pic of Pepper.  Meadow would be in heaven having an overturned container of pellets!  and me nowhere to be found!  i do have a question tho… is that her food?  looks almost like bird seed to me from the pic.  the food that has the rainbow bits in it is not good for the buns.  the best food (after timothy hay and veggies) is just a regular timothy pellet.  i’m not sure if you’ve already switched her, or what the story is, just a head’s up. 

It is feed for her morning meal, I give her just excell pellets in the afternoon and fresh veg before bedtime.  She chooses not to eat the seeds and usually tips them out of her bowl all over the place.  It looks like it is a lot of seeds but I tend to sive the majority out back into the box before I put them in her bowl.

I am such a pushover – if I make myself something to eat – this morning it was an egg & cheese taco with cilantro – so, I had to give them some cilantro – because they have not eaten in a year!

can you get a long dish?  i saw long carrot ones that would allow for them to both have a half sort of…

oooh.  this is a cute bowl.  might not work tho.  but it’s adorable.  7.5 inches long… so not too much longer than a regular bowl.

Yep, my bunnies get plenty of food, but they too jump around like maniacs when they get any idea in their head that I’m going to be giving them food. Jack has even learned to Binky for food. He gets so excited that he would binky, and I thought it was so cute, that I would give him food, well he now has me trained. He binkies, I feed him. I’ve had to tone that down, otherwise, he’ll be one big fat bunny.

Lornatrea – With foods that have “other” stuff in it, you do have to be careful as some of those kinds of foods have higher fat, and lower fiber which doesn’t lead to good digestive health. You want to have the fat no higher than 2% and the fiber should be 18% as a minimum.

hehe yes i wonder who is really in control as all a bunny has to do is something cute for food or affection and we are just like oh all right then! clever buggers hehe

Wow you’re right.  Same mopatop as Pepper too!  Nightmare to get a great picture of a black rabbit.

I adopted my holland lop Lilith from the Humane Society a year ago. She had weepy eye, pin worms, and dental disease. She never had a big appetite, and couldn’t eat carrots or celery. The only option we had was to remove her incisors. Shortly after, she got sick and had either head tilt or some type of infection. She couldn’t hop and her head was completely to one side, she’d roll and had to be in a cage with towels everywhere, it was so sad. After about 3 weeks being on medication, she recovered completely. Ever since, her appetite has quadrupled and acts like she’s starving. It’s gotten to the point that if she begs long enough and I don’t feed her, she will pee outside her box and on my kitchen rug! I’ve come to the conclusion she’s making up for lost time, and now that she’s not in pain she’s happy and hungry. I think the happier the bunny the hungrier they act.

Nandricci, this is a very old thread. We ask members not to revive threads older than a month or so, so as not to create confusion. Your point is interesting though, and it makes me happy that you’ve adopted this poor bunny that so definitely needed and needs you, and it makes me even happier to hear that she’s recovered from her many problems =) It is true that a happy bunny is a hungry bunny!
