Miracles of miracles! I am finally getting my Luna spayed. I recently moved back home and have been searching for a good vet.  Things have finally settled down and I am getting ready to take her.  I found a doctor not 10 minutes away who got great reviews and specializes in small animal surgery  (his picture on his website even has him holding a bunny!). i was surprised and pleased with this as most places only advertise for dogs and cats (there are other pets you know!).  AND what great luck.  i found out  he is on the NJHRS website for low cost spay/neuter so i can get a really great price. has anyone done this HRS certificate thing before?

i will be calling the clinic to get information and find out if she needs to go in for a check up exam first or if it all can be done at once. and what other costs there will be so i am prepared. i am worried about her going through surgery as i have read spays are more involved then neuters. Nova came through his neuter beautifully and i know he will miss her while she is away. i will be worried the whole time! i am wondering if i should bring Nova in for a checkup as its been almost a year since his last although there’s nothing wrong with him. but it always peeves me to pay $50+ for the vet to poke around for 10 minutes and tell me there is nothing wrong with my pet which i was already pretty sure of anyway. i don’t know?

i’m sure i will be back here asking about post-op care! i will be fretting over her while she is recovering and wondering what to do about Nova in the meanwhile. I hope he doesn’t get depressed and lonely for his bunny love. when he was away for his neuter she was searching all over for him poor girl.

any tips and advice on what to ask the vet /how to prepare for the separation (both me and Nova!) would be great. thanks!

That’s great Luna will be getting spayed and my word you’ve had some luck with the vet and $ too! I’ll let the other BB members who have gone through the process with post-op more recently ship in there. Basically keep to one level, quiet area and some fragrant greens to tempt your bun to eat.

As for the check-up I get my two done once a year whether they need it or not. It gives the vet an opportunity to collect and maintain a history for them so if something does happen, there is something to look back on.

I am so glad to hear that you’re getting her spayed – that’s wonderful news!

Are your bunnies bonded? If so – then Nova really should go with Luna to the vet for the spay. It will help calm her and more importantly I know of some bonds that have been broken when one bunny comes home from the vet and doesn’t smell right. i would also recommend some faux sheepskin to lay on post spay. As Scarlet mentioned, you’ll want to keep her restricted and quiet for a few days. you might also ask the doctor about pain meds – since that often has a bunny eating sooner. yummy herbs are a good idea, since they’ll likely tempt her to eat.
