  Can gas be caused by hairballs/ blockage?
  
  I came home last night at midnight to find Medusa completely listless in hen position on my bed and her body & ears felt colder than normal. She wouldn’t move and declined her favorite pellets, raisin, hay. She also had only eaten 1 romaine leaf (out of 4) that my dad had put out for her earlier that evening. Usually when I come home she starts running around and gets excited about and night-time pellets. I put her on a heating pad and massaged her stomach for 10 minutes. She had some LOUD gas noises after that. She ate 1 willow leaf and went back to hen position. I massaged her stomach more and there were more noises. Then, she suddenly hopped up, jumped down the bed and started eating her romaine and acting like normal. Her ears were also warm again. She continues to eat & act normal today.
  
  She doesn’t eat anything that would cause gas. She has unlimited oat hay, romaine, and APD Timmy Rabbit pellets. This is the first time she’s ever had any stomach problems. Can hair cause it? Because she is shedding right now.

  maybe could be hair block and you massaged it away my bun had not poo’d and what he did do was very small and few and was hunched in his hunch position I did same and he went back to his cage and later I came to check he had huge pile of poo.
  
  found out he had umbilical hernea tho. he had never been really active since I had him and that was why it hurt him. yours may be simple as hair block and I see that some people have simithecone or gasx to give their buns when having those trouble of tum tums. oh and if change in food go slowly cuz can cause tummy aches and gasses in them too. if change in food maybe that was the cause a new food perhaps. if worried go take him to the vet. hopefully all is fine. and rubbin their tums is very helpful for them good job there. fast thinking. but for peace of mind a vet visit is a good idea. just to be sure. unless anyone else on the site has more experience in this area and other advice. I don’t have a lot of experience in this area oh yeah you did mention he is shedding a lot are you able to brush him or her to help with the shedding. you may notice a string of poo like pearls with hair. not a good thing . and papaya may help break up the hair so it passes easier. papaya has enzymes to help that stuff. of course lots of hay too which you probably already give
  
  you can get papaya tablets from binky bunny or oxbow hay. buns usually go crazy for them.

  yes, gas often accompanies GI upsets, which can be caused by a build up of fur in tummy. Rabbits don’t get hairballs per say, but it can wreck havoc on their system. I am very glad to hear it went away so quickly, but would keep a careful eye on her. I’d also recommend keeping up with her brushing, ensuring she has fresh water all the time and would add some papaya tablets or a small amount of unsweetened pineapple juice.
  
  The behavior you described it what the on-set of GI Stasis looks like, so it is very fortunate that she turned around so quickly and didn’t require medical attention. I’d highly recommend picking up some infant gas drops (simethecone) since it can be very helpful when bunnies are gassy.

  How is Poopy?? Have you tried giving her simethcone? I’d recommend that too!
  
  I use baby OVOL and Kokanee loves it, she seriously runs up like its a treat and attacks the syringe

  good info gravehearted. that was definitely a scary experience coming home to find your animal COLD and not moving.
  
  can you get simethecone at any drugstore/ target? how many drops do you give?

  Yup!! Just grab some ‘baby gas medication” and apparently you can give 0.5 cc’s (from what I’ve read….) but i give about 0.25 cc to kokanee as she is a dwarf and I’m sure the 0.5 was just for rabbits….Anyways it seems to work even at that dosage. I’d say by ‘drop’ method maybe 3-5?
