        Hi all,

Just wanted to give an update that my baby, NeNe, made it thru her spay with flying colours. She came home yesterday and is eating and drinking and having bowel movements. yay! She was pregnant, there were 6 babies inside and they were the size of marbles. I feel a bit sad and guilty for terminating her pregnancy but like I had said before we have a really bad overpopulation problem on Vancouver Isladn with rabbits. It would have been VERY hard to find them homes. the Vet did not find any cancer which is great since nene is 3 years old. well, now there is no chance for babies ever and I’m thankful for that and she will not get uterine cancer.

        take care all!

        Bette

That’s awesome on all accounts! Don’t feel guilty. You are being a very responsible pet owner. I commend you for that. Maybe you talked about this earlier but did you know she was pregnant?

              Hi,
I had a feeling she was pregnant because she escaped from her cage and my male who is intact has full run of the shed and they were together. My other male that neNe lives with is neutered. So i made the vet appointment the day I caught her outside of her cage, so she was only one week along. I guess there was always a chance she wasn’t pregnant but you know how bunnies are So I was sure she was.

Excellent! don’t feel bad, I wish that I had my rabbit done when I first got her, I didn’t and she was pregnant with 6 babies.

                I do love them tho.

I’m glad to hear she made it through OK – I know it was probably difficult decision for you, but some of the rescue people that I work with also have to make the same difficult decision. With the over-population problems with rabbits, and especially considering the lack of enough adopters for the bunnies already in shelters, it is a sad necessity at this point. I hope that one day progress in spay/neuter programs, and one day the end of sale of bunnies through breeders and pet stores, will lead to the day when we actually have a shortage of adoptable buns
