I was just wondering – does any one have buns that get the hiccups?

I have noticed Kaye – twice now – make a sound and movement that was like a hiccup – but only for about 10 to 20 seconds.

I just made a “New Bunny Checkup” appointment with the vet, for Thursday. They said that rabbits do have diaphrams – so, it is possible!

Any way – I’m just curious.

PS – I had a dog that got them all the time.

Hmm, I think it can happen like you said, is it after Kaye drinks water? It might be that she is getting extra air say from a water bottle. Most buns do better if they have a water crock to drink from. That’s great they are going in for their check-up! Let us know how it goes!

ooo glad to hear Kaye is going in for the new bunny check up, that’s always a good idea.

The Hiccups might actually be a clucking sound when they’re happy. When do you notice Kaye doing it? I think it is possible for bunnies to have regular hiccups though.

Heehee…I keep thinking of all the times my kids kicked me in the ribs when they got the hiccups in utero… >.<
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Mimzy hiccup, but I know my cat Griffyn does. Usually after he eats and washes himself. It’ll be all quiet where he’s laying down with me and then suddenly he hiccups and his little body does a jump, it’s funny but I try not to laugh because that annoys him. ^^

I seem to remember it was after a little grooming session with “her Man” that she got the “alleged” hiccups. So, maybe it was a little happy clucking?

So many funny / strange noises and gestures to figure out. But, I think that is part of the fun.

Scarlet Rose – Right now they have both a water crock & a bottle – they completely ignore the bottle. I think I will take it down.

Revived this old thread…. today I saw my Sammy lying on his belly all stretched out and I thought he had the hiccups too. They stopped after 15 secs or so, but I got worried it might have been something else. An online search had some folks saying it was happy clucking, but this wasn’t it. Sammy’s hiccups looked exactly like this bunny in the video:

                      LOL!!!!!

That is the same video that put us at ease when Little-Bit had hiccups as a baby. She would have them as she was all sprawled out too -something about the diaphragm being pushed up, I think. Nothing wrong with it.
