Hi! Ok so my mom and I were cleaning up my room because we are getting ready to paint it. Well after Spinner left I thought I had vaccumed up all the poop, but my mom and I were finding it everywhere! My mom said “That is one pet I am not going to let you get.” I’ve told her they can be litter box trained, that he might have been marking his territory, or he was scared. So my question is do rabbits usually poop so much that you find poops under your bed, closet, desk, pretty much everywhere for the next month? My mom is not impressed and won’t listen to me when I tell her they can be litter box trained, that he might have been marking his territory, or he was scared. So what do you think?

well unfortunatley they do poop everywhere even if litter trained for many reasons however if you are responcible enough to keep a clean room there shouldnt be a problem. Both my bunnies are litter trained and neutered but the thing is there poop is wet wen it comes out and can have a nasty habit of dragging on there fur then onto the floor but as i say there shouldnt be a problem if you are a clean person hoovering once every day is fine and the more offen u do this the more used to the clean environment they shall get, i wouldnt advise hoovering in the same room as your bunny though as the noise does seem to annoy them no all bunnys of course just your more timid bun buns also sooty was litter trained long before he was neutered, just sprayin was the problem

they can be littertrained.  the only poops i ever see outside of the litterbox are ones that were kicked out while jumping in or out.  but my Meadow is abnormal in her excellent habits.  that’s not always the case.

many people on here have altered rabbits and still say there are territorial poops here and there.  there’s no guarantee that neutered/spayed = total litterbox training.  it may be something you would have to work on for a year or longer to get those good (90% of the time) habits.  i think without altering there’s a very slim chance that he or she will have perfect litter habits.  did you tell your mom that altering was necessary to the process?

Yes. I told her that the bunny had to be neutered in order for them to be litterbox trained, but she just sorta shakes her head and walks away. I am not sure if it is that she doesn’t beilive me or doesn’t like how I am so persistant that it is possible for every animal to be taught something. I don’t know.

have you shown your mom our website or houserabbit.org?  WILL she look at the sites and read about the litterbox training and spay or neuter? worth a try. and by the way guina pigs are harder on the litterbox training than rabbits. the poos may die down once they get settled in too. try to get your mom to read up on tthis info with you won’t hurt.

I am not sure she would look at websites and read about it. I will have to wait awhile and not mention getting a pet because if I do I have zero chance of getting a rabbit. I really don’t have a huge chance of getting a rabbit at the moment because I asked to get a rat the other day (like rescue it) and my mom got a little mad, so I have to lay low for a while before I can ask her for a pet again (5-9 monthes). I will show her when I can though!

There are absolutely no guarantees that anyone can make about this as Beka stated. Even an altered rabbit might poop or pee outside their litter box. Altering helps but the truth is that some rabbits are just better than others about using their litter box. That’s pretty much why it’s best to get an altered rabbit from a rescue – they will be able to tell you about their rabbit’s litter box habits.

I have found bunny poo’s roll or get kicked underthings, so I am not surprised the with your best efforts you came across a few even after all this time. I don’t have carpets and have cats and dogs as well so things do roll around. Bunny pee is another issue. That is were the neutering/spaying will be critical. Shadow is great with peeing in in box in his room, even when the cats go in there. However… he and the cats try to lay claim to this one corner of my dining area and it gets ugly. I have a small box for him, but the cats go in it and he goes out side this box. It is a constant one up on each other.

I am getting him spayed this coming Friday, so it will be interesting to see what happens in this corner after the operation.

Good idea about laying low for now. You know how hard and far to push.

we’ve had these conversations before Bigsis.  from what you say, your mom doesn’t seem very concerned about animals and what kind of pets you’re interested in having.  it’s entirely possible that you might not be able to have a rabbit until you’re on your own as an adult, in your own place with a job.  i know you hate hearing that, but i get worried when you keep hoping for a rabbit in 5-9 months.  i’d hate for you to be disappointed, and it’s not likely your mom will become a different person in that time.

honestly, littertraining should be the least of your worries.  what happens if your mom does let you get a rabbit and it develops bad teeth or some other serious health problems?  you’ll need to spend several hundred (or thousands) of dollars on vet care, or watch your pet die.  as long as you’re a child, your mom is going to need to be involved in these kinds of things.  it’s only fair that she be 100% commited to providing the best care before you get a rabbit, and it doesn’t sound like that’s going to happen.  but, it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get your first rabbit for 5-10 years.  there will always be many, many rabbits needing a loving home.

awe big sis I am sad about your situation. parents can be a pain. I know I was a pain heheee. well maybe if you have a printer or go to library you can print out something about buns and litterbox training and leave it lying around by chance your Mom might read it or as Beka previously said you may have to wait til you are on your own. hang in there. you time will come too.  sounds like your Mom likes things very neat clean and tidy. so again you may have to wait til you are own your own for a pet. as bunny poos do get around I have no carpet either and I find them here n there  I did know I persons bun who pooed in the box only but that is rare they hit it every time

i think that even if a bunny is litterbox trained it will still poop occasionally but it shouldnt do it all the time that much and if it does mine will only do it in a couple of places so as long as im watching while he is out he wont do anything like under my bed or anywhere silly
