Ebony is also scratching her ears, I can’t see anything either but she has a few tiny scratch marks in her ear and the skin is red.

I will ask the vet tomorrow when she goes in for her spay.

Tegan once scratched her ears to the point where she got to raw skin on one. We took her to the vet, and it turned out that there weren’t any mites as we’d feared, but a lot of wax and detritus that had built up in the ear canal. They cleaned it out and gave us some eardrops, and the ear healed up just fine.

She looked like a little drowned rat with big black ears after the vet got done with the wash

Hey girl I don’t mean to be a downer but Ziggy’s has been dealing with a ear infection since Oct  he was digging at his ears and shaking his head when it started. the vet is still dealing with it I brought him home last Wen and he’s doing it all again. Were  hoping its a allergy if don’t he might need surgery. You can check out what all he’s been thru under Ziggys ear infection under the diet and care forum.kitti

If it persists it would be a good idea ot have it checked by your vet.  With an otoscope- vets can look way deeper into the ear canals than we can at home.  And the sooner you are on top of a problem the better.

I have a lop eared bunny and I can not see into the base of her ears- let alone her ear drums.  With an otoscope a vet can make sure there is no debris, no redness or lesions in the ear canal itself and also that the ear drum is intact.

Is there any nystagmus (eye ‘darting’ or ‘rolling’/ horizontal repetitive movement of the head) or head tilt going on?

no i havnt seen any of those symptoms. she hasnt been scratching at her ears as much these last couple days, but she seems to shake her head a lot. I’m not sure if its because shes happy or if her ears are bothering her. *sigh* theres always something going on with this girl.
