I went to the drugstore today and bought some simethicone. Just wondering if what I bought is the appropriate stuff for rabbits. It’s called Ovol drops. Simethicone Emulsion, fast gentle relief of infant colic due to gas. Anyone else use this kind?

Hmm, it sounds like the right kind to me. I haven’t used that particular one though.

O.K. from what I understand any pediatric suspension of simethicone drops is O.K. to use and the one I am most familiar with is Phazyme. But, be sure it is only simethocone and not mixed with other active ingredients/drugs.  Beka, it sure does help with intestinal gas, you were spot-on!

Edited to add that it is best to check with your vet first before giving your rabbit any medication.

As others have said, just be sure it says 100% Simethicone, with no antacids or other stuff.  The infant formulas are usually the right ones.  Here in the states, I have used the brand name Mylicon for my kids, and now use it for my buns!

I don’t know the brand you’re asking about – but as Osprey mentioned as long as it doesn’t have sugar, antacids, anti-diarrhea or such it should be fine. I’ve used the Mylicon, Lil Tummies and Target store brand. The target kind is significantly less expensive than the name brands.

Yup, I found a list of the stuff that has semethicone in it on a bunny site, and ovol was one listed. That’s what I picked up, I used 0.25 cc’s a dose, and it seemed to work quickly and well.
