yahoo!  over night baby has been litter trained.  what a silly goose she is.  or rather, i am for not figuring her out sooner!

some of you might remember, we’ve gone thru lots of changes since her surgery last november.  once she healed up she became more adventurous and started loving to run out to the living room to hang out with the dog & i.  of course this created the need for a living room litter and since she had used her old grate bottom cage as a litter before it posed a problem.  (she was never confined to this cage & always has had free run of her whole bedroom at all times so her footsies were always happy)

for a good long time she pooped & peed everywhere in the living room.  i knew some of this was because of her not being spayed (long story some of you already know… in short she’s too old to have this done now) and some was because of her new expanded territory.  i was happy to settle into a routine of cleaning up after her since it was so great that she was hanging with us in the living room & binkying & all. but still worth a shot at litter training.

first i took away her old grate-floored cage & replaced it with an nic structure for her in her bedroom that was similar to her original set-up.  i made a pan out of sign-board for her litter / hay which she used… except for peeing.  she peed in another corner of the room for some reason, so i picked up a corner litter tray & added some yesterdays news & voila!  she uses it for all her bedroom pees.  in the meantime i had built an nic structure for her in the living room too thinking that she’d know what to do with it & use it for her poops & pee.  she caught on right away that it was her place but wouldnt pee in the poop deck where her hay, water and small tray with yesterdays news in it.  i was thinking she’d realize it was like the one in her bedroom but it didn’t work.  she’d still only pee on the area rug or on the promenade deck & then sit in it.  ew.  i put towels in there to absorb the pee so she wouldn’t sit in puddles & need her pee-pee paws & bum cleaned, but soon she started going to the towel to pee while in her living rm rabitat.  what a lot of laundry that is!  it must be like having a kid in cloth diapers!

so then i moved the small tray with yesterdays news onto the promenade deck in the corner (i have it clipped in place to the nic) and she immediately sat right in it & peed!  she must be thinking… “gees human, you sure do take a long time to catch on don’t you?  i like to pee a different corner!”  that was just saturday and since then she hasn’t peed once in the living room anywhere else but in that tray!  who says you cn’t teach an old rabbit new tricks

That’s funny :~) She is obviously very particular about her pee corner so I’m glad you caught on.
