Acorn has developed a habit of following me around the house and nipping at my ankles when I stop. When he does it, he isn’t biting me hard at all and seems to be asking for attention maybe because if I pet him afterwards he "assumes the position" (that’s what the local HRS people call it when a bunny goes into like the meatloaf position with their heads on the ground to be petted) and seems very happy to get some loving.
So is he just looking for attention here? I am not sure how I should react to this behavior.
I’m fairly confident the whole running around your heels and nipping is mating behaviour… lol…
LOL! He is courting me?
Yup. That’s what he’s doing. He meant to bring you flowers but he got hungry on the way home…
he loooooooooves you.
he wants to be your boooooooyfriend.
he needs to be neuuuuuutered.
lol!
LOL! They go to the vet tomorrow and hopefully to be fixed later on next week.
honestly tho… you’ve lucked out with them having pretty good behavior. Meadow was a little terror right before her surgery.
Oh yeah, I’m definately lucky. I didn’t think that what he was doing was a bad behavior at all, I kind of figured there were hormones involved somewhere.
Right before I got Cadbury spayed, she would run around my ankles honking at me and sometimes nipped my ankles. Awww, don’t you feel special – he’s definitely courting you!
Special? Yes, but I’m also ready to get those hormones taken care of! I just hope they don’t decide to not like me after the surgeries! Right now they both follow me around and I think it’s cute.
yep – glad you have that snip snip scheduled! it’s a courting looooove dance.
Hahah, lucky you!!! I too get nipped on the elbow in the middle of the night when Bettie decides to get up on the bed for a cuddle. It’s such a cute little “thing” when she does it, I can’t be mad, i can be tired the next day…but not mad. lol
aww he wuvves u
I just posted a video clip of Spockie licking my foot. He would occasionally nip, but once I yelped and said “No biting!” he switched to kisses again.
awwwwwww! love nips
Love nips? What if a bunny is still nipping you two months AFTER his ‘alteration’?
Not constant, and I’m pretty sure it’s a territory thing. But I have brittle skin this time of year and have to worry about infection.
Honking? Bunnies honk?? 0.o
Mimzy used to make a low humming noise, (that’s the best I can describe it), when he first came home and I would sit with him in his outdoor run. He also used to nudge my bum with his nose. What was up with THAT?
I gotta say, this thread made me chuckle. Especially Beka’s post. XD
Yeah I hadn’t seen this before-Beka your sooo funny!! ![]()

Buns will nip for various reasons but they almost always mean that the bun wants you to stop what you’re doing and do something else. Such as pet them, get them treats, stay away from my stash of play-bun mags…
Honking is quite an interesting sound and not all buns make it. The one I heard was very similiar if you made a really short hum. You can hear one bun honking in this short clip on youtube:

LOL ^^^^ Play-bun-you totally reminded me of this LOL bunny hehe

Cadbury made the exact honking noise that is in the video markusdark sent. At first, I was convinced she was dying of some sort of respiratory ailment, until I got on the internet and realized what is was. Since she’s been spade, she doesn’t honk anymore. I kind of miss it.
Sick, I know, but true.
Thanks for the you tube video. Now I know Spockie definitely was honking.
“Yes, Mum, I CAN speak. I just choose not to,” said himself. “mm. mm. mm. mm.”
I think they’re teeny tiny humans in rabbit suits.
Well, the noise in the vid is similar, but not quite what I heard. Mimzy’s noise was more like a dragonfly gently fanning it’s wings against my ear in short bursts. It was SO sweet! I wish I could’ve taken film of him at that time. Too bad my camera was broken.
Need to get a new one, I can’t stand to miss any more cuteness! ![]()
