I know the "gated" feeling.  We had to put a gate across our 2nd bedroom upstairs as it is the "Cat’s Room"- with litterboxes and food- and all except 1 parrot is in there.  The dogs love to steal the cat food, snack out of the litter boxes and eat anything that falls out of the parrots cages.

We then had to buy a gate for our master bedroom- as we confine the dogs in with us at night- to prevent any midnight counter surfing and garbage sorting and shredding.  We used to just close the door- but one of the cats must have been under the bed and he peed on the dresser.  So I guess he was making a statement.  So we bought another gate to put up. It is ironic as there is a certain gate that we use- as the cats can still slip thru- so they are not "trapped".  But the cat that peed on the dresser is 17 pounds and it is funny to watch him squeeze thru.
