Hi, Stormy here. I have some concerns.

#1 is I’m a Mini-Rex (a dang handsome Mini-Rex I might add) and I shed in patches. Mom brushes me every night (blast that woman!!) and lately has been taking off handfulls around my adorable little tail. It just keeps coming out and coming out! To my absolute horror I noticed there is now a big, ping-pong ball sized bald spot right above my tail. It’s actually, literally bald and my cute little pink skin is exposed (I’m so embarassed). Any other rex owners experience this? Will my bum hair grow back? If anyone sees me like this I will just die…

#2 is sometimes I sit on my potty and pull poops out of my bum (can I say poops on the internet?) and leave them all shredded in my litter box. My mom keeps asking me why I’m doing this (does she not realize I have no freaking vocal cords?). Can someone give her some info on this so she will leave me the heck alone.

        Thanks.

hi stormy… it’s baby bun here.  i’m a mini lop so i don’t know about mini rex fur, but i just thought i’d say… don’t be shy about your bald spot.  i think you’re really cute even if you’re showing some skin!  i hope that it’s not sore and that it doesn’t itch though, and maybe some one will have some info for your mom.  i’m pretty sure it’s okay to say poops here because my mom does it alllll the time.  trust me ::bunny eye roll::  do you think maybe your poops need help coming out because you’re shedding so much fur right now?  even though i haven’t left any shredded poops, some times i have poops that are all strung together with fur & mom wonders how they ever came out of my bum.  good luck stormy… hope your mom gets some answers & you feel better real soon!

hmm, well since your mom likely has the heat on, it sometimes can confuse bunnies to shed in the wrong season. Bald spots can happen during heavy shedding. Is there any signs of dandruff? Mom should also check you all over for fleas, since they sometimes are very irritating to sensitive bunny skin.

I’m a bit confused – you’re shredding poopies? It is normal to eat poops from your bum though…

hi Stormy… i’m a mini rex too (the most beautiful bunny breed if i do say so myself… hehe) but i haven’t had anything like that happen when my ma brushes me.  i haven’t been shedding so much the last couple weeks, so i think i might be done for awhile.  keep me posted, i’m worried about you.  and don’t feel bad, no one is gonna mind that your butt is showin’…

Ha ha ha …..but the no shedding thing did get daddy to say yes to fostering…..won’t he be suprised

Yeah, I have pretty weird potty habits. Once in a while I just sit and pull the poops out of my bum and half my litter box is all shredded poops. They look normal though and there is no hair in them. Am I just weird, I thought there might be some other buns who do this?

Hi it’s Ebony here; those poops can sure be a problem sometimes.

I think you look cute even if you do have balled spots, you could start a new fashion trend.

I don’t know where our mums would be if it wasn’t for us keeping them on there toes.

                      Hi Stormy,

Well little fella what has your past been like, maybe that will explain your habit of pulling poos out of your bum. As for the bald patch, it it normal at times to have a patch like that when shedding but sensitive bunny skin can get irritated or sore from grooming, so she might want to stay away from that spot for a little bit. Take care little fella!

Hi Stormy, Cadbury here. I am also a mini-rex, and boy do I shed! My mom thought I would only shed four times a year, but I started in early November and haven’t stopped yet! I’m not real happy about being brushed, so my mom will sometimes wet her hand and rub against my fur to get all the loose hair out. I much prefer that method.

One day my mom came downstairs and I had pulled large chunks of fur out, although there were no bald spots so my mom is still confused as to where all that hair came from (ha, it’s my secret!). She thought at first that I was making a nest, but I had been spayed.

Good luck with the shedding, and I wouldn’t worry too much about the bald patch – it will grow back!
