Frinite Jarod and I went to bed late, around 12:30 ish and tucked all the buns in bed. I couldn’t sleep and was up at 5:30am. Went to check on the buns and there was hair everywhere that belonged to Pookie! She was fine hiding in a corner. I keep two hooks on her and Coopers cage and the bottom one wasn’t completley closed and she wiggled through. Hooper was out with her and beat her up fairly good. Hooper’s bottom clip on his cage wasn’t latched at all (I think I am losing my mind!). I latched the middle but not the bottom one.
So, Pookie was pretty scared when I got down there and let me pick her up which showed me how bad she was. Hooper actually seemed proud of himself! I took Pookie upstairs and checked her out. She had a laceration thru her top and bottom eyelids on her right eye. She had a dime sized pool of blood starting to clot in the corner that I washed out with saline. Her actual Iris looked red in that eyes as well so I freaked out. I kept her separated until we could get her into the vet at 9:30am.
The vet was great.  They had to put Pookie under to suture her eyelids that only required 1 or 2 stitches but she said if it wasn’t done it would never heal back on its on and flap a little. She did have one minor scratch on her and so they shaved around that area to be watched. Her eye is hideous. They shaved about an inch all around that eye and it looks like it is bulging out because of the haircut.
She gaves us Benebac, eye ointment-tobramycin and another oral antibiotic that i cant remember. We take her back in 10 days to have the sutures removed. I have kept her isolated in the living room alone all day because Cooper is just not gentle with her. So they can only have suprvised visits for awhile. Nothing upsets Cooper so he wasn’t upset with her new smells.
Nothing like a bunny injury to start out a saturday!

Jeez, you have some tough bunnies in your house, Hedi, beating up on other buns like that.  This incident just proves once more that if a kid or an animal is going to get sick, it is always on Saturday or Sunday.

Isn’t that the truth! Things always happen on the weekends.  My husband went backpacking one Friday and didn’t return until Sunday and our golden retriever wouldn’t eat or drink at all.  She’s a bit attached to Tim.  I spent nearly $500 that weekend taking her to the vet and having them give her intravenious fluids and later determining it was just depression!  She was totally back to normal Sunday night! Oh, and so sorry about your poor Bunny.  What an awful thing to happen.

We’ve kept Pookie isolated and give her brief visits with her Cooper. She just looks so bad! She has those bulging eyes anyways but with it being shaved around her eye she looks pitiful. I will post a pic when I get one of her. Poor thing.

Poor girl! Thank god for emergency vets, eh? Things always choose to get ill when it’s the least convenient…

Oh no Hedi. I am so sorry to hear about the fight but am very glad you were able to get Pookie the vet care she needed in order to have as normal a life as possible. I can’t imagine if the eyelid wasn’t stitched, it would have been difficult for her. Don’t fret over the latches, I know it was not a good thing that she was beaten up, but we all forget sometimes and you just might want to put a note on your bathroom mirror to check them before going to bed (I do). Sometimes you just get so busy or so tired we just take for granted that we automatically have done things and sometimes that is not the case. So take care, check on them before bed time and get some good sleep. : )

Awww poor Pookie One of my bunnies escaped once and beat up another, and the funny thing is that my bunny got the exact same injury to the eyelid. It must have something to do with the way that they fight. My bunnies injury didn’t end up meriting stitches though, but now he’s just fine, a little bump on the eyelid, but nothing is wrong (well, he’s a bit more friendly than he used to be due to the fact that I had to hold him a lot to give him meds). I also wanted to mention to give your bunny a good check all over, the vet and I both looked Raymond over after the incident and found a couple cuts – then a few days later I found 3 more! They hide them very well and you’ll want to keep an eye on any of those injuries, so I’d recommend giving him some checks all over each day for a few days just in case.
