i just thought, can rabbits have different behaviors/ personalities depending on their breed? hamsters and dogs and cats do. i mean like a black bear hamster is one of the nicest, and a dwarf hamster is meanest, and for dogs, pit bull and bull dog are meaner, so i thought hey rabbits probably do too then.  i have a dutch rabbit. if there is a personality difference between breeds, what is a dutch rabbits?

hey it may be a personality difference between each rabbit, instead of the breed,

         >DSCN0371.jpg picture by o0Panic0o< shes mostly lazy, and likes to nibble and sometimes bite my fingers. She really does get mad when she doesnt like what i do to her.

I’d say that rabbits personality really depends on their background, their experiences as an animal, and the environment they are in. For example, some large bunnies at shelters are very insecure and scared so they can act very tough or mean, but then, if someone takes them home they can turn very sweet. I have a bunny named Nilla Bean that someone dumped outdoors, and for a long time she was very skittish and ran away all the time because she was so used to being chased outside. Now that she is in a nice home and not constantly scared of predators, she likes to sleep on my bed all day and observe all the goings-on

Hey MooBunnay, I had a former bunny named "Vanilla" Bean. It’s such a cute name!

In my experience I find lops to be quiet and docile and smaller breeds like mini-rex’s to be a bit more hyper.

To generalize, many times larger rabbits have more mellow personalities than the smaller ones, but I am with MooBunnay 100% because I have seen hyper large and mellow small. I have seen noisy, active, bossy lops too. I think because I have seen sooo many over the years with my volunteer work, I can see where personality and characteristics have much less to due with breed. However, I have yet to really find a mellow docile tiny breed.

i’ve had 3 lops, all with distincly different personalities.  binky boy (they told me he was a  mini lop) was active & friendly & a wee bit sneaky as he liked to try to get into my roommates bedroom to snoop & poop… brownie (holland lop) was verrry cuddly and sweet and mellow girl who tucked herself under my chin the very first time i picked her up… and then there’s my baby bun (lop) who’s a feisty, stubborn and verrry opinionated gal whos so bossy that she even tries to dominate our 65 lb dog.

I think breed may predispose an animal to act a certain way, but most animals have unique personalities and a lot of their temperament can depend on past environments. Ex: You said dwarf hamster are mean, well, not mine. He is as sweet as he can be, I can hold him, and he has never bitten anyone. Also, I’ve never met a mean pit bull in my life, I know there are some out there, but I’ve never met one. I’m new to rabbits, so I’m not going to act like I know about them, but, as for other types of animals, I believe environment plays a bigger role in temperament than breed.
