Ok to make a long story short I posted on this website and offered to help people choose a pet and answer their questions about their pet. So this lady emails me and her dog is pooping everywhere. Well, she doesn’t want him and according to her she didn’t want him in the first place. He is a 4-6 month old puppy she got off a classifed. Poor puppy. So I said I would help her find a home for him, but……. This just makes me so mad!!!!!!

I completely understand where you are coming from. It upsets me too when people get a pet only to give it up a few months later because they didn’t really understand the committment they were making. Thank you for helping this puppy find a new home though! The world needs more people like you that are willing to help out animals in need.

I know what you mean. Just be very careful on taking on other people’s responsibility. You will not want to put yourself in the predicament that this is your puppy and if it doesn’t work out with the new owner that you will be taking him back.

This is what she says in her ad. *temparture rising, rage increasing*

I tried posting ads in the pets section, but the flaggers there are out of control and it seems like no matter what I say, I get flagged!

I have a dog, a puppy actually. We haven’t had him long, but I can’t take care of him. It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have 4 children to care for, but taking him in was a bad idea. His last home couldn’t keep him because their bigger dogs bullied him, he really is a sweet dog. I tried potty training him, but I don’t know what I’m doing and nobody will help me and I can’t afford to pay anyone. Plus, food might not cost a lot for him, but since my son has been breaking everything lately (computer monitor, cell phone, his bed, dresser, toybox), we’ve had to replace a lot of things….so yeah, I just can’t afford it…plus he needs to be vetted and get shots n stuff.

I need to focus on my son right now and so I’m really not ready for a dog. I don’t even want to charge a fee, but I’m afraid I’ll get flagged if I say he’s free….so, I’m going to say that I’m charging a negotiable adoption fee of $20. Which, if you pay that, you’ll get his bed and toys and leash and collar. Please e-mail me asap if interested and I can send pics and details….this ad won’t be here long once the flaggers see it (they want me to take him to the pound), so hurry.

I would have her contact a humane society to see if they can take him.

She certainly has alot of issues.

Yes, call the SPCA and I’m sure they can take the dog and find him a good home.

She says she doesn’t want to take him to the shelter. I’ll post some pictures on another forum right now. Remember when you see the pictures she thinks he’s ugly.

I believe she is trying to play on your emotions too. You need to be careful not to get too emotional or upset about these things if you are going to help in this way. Many people will try to manipulate you to try to feel bad about the animal in order to get you to take the animal. You have to remember that this is this lady’s responsibility and not yours and she has to do the responsible thing – she is after all an adult whether or not she seems to be acting like one.

i agree with sarita, you have to be careful not to take on other people’s problems when you are trying to help out.  it’s really difficult to do when you care very passionately about some thing but you really have to be strong and stick to your guns so-to-speak.  she likely does not want to take the dog to the shelter because she’d have to tell them all of her reasons for not wanting the puppy.  in other words, she’d have to admit she didn’t think through her decision to get a puppy in the first place very well & that can be hard to do.  some times people need a shove to do hard things like that and i think this how you can help her the most.  urge her that the shelter is the best place for the dog because they know best how to screen possible homes to place the puppy permanently.

oh Bigsis!  i know you’re trying really REALLY hard to help animals, but i don’t think this is the right way to go about it.  you want to help animals and the people who love them, not the jerks who hate them and are looking for an easy way out.  does this woman know you’re a young teenager?  i’m not going to get into this (irresponsible, immature, wacko) woman b/c i don’t want to lose my cool… but i agree… you need to tell her that she needs to take him to a shelter.  the puppy is young, and the young ones get snatched up more quickly than the older dogs.  plus most shelters will do the shots and neuter surgery as well.

i’m not sure what site you’re posting on (and i don’t need to know) but if people are flagging things at such an alarming rate, i’m guessing you should not be posting these subjects on there to begin with.  you’re learning a valuable lesson about what lengths people will go to in order to shirk off their responsibilities.

Ok. So yes I know the lady is trying to get me to buy the dog. I am urging her to take it to a shelter. She said she would think about it. Also she is getting flagged because her adoption fee is so low, not just because. Thanks for your concerns!

Hi bigsis, I hope things work out well for the puppy in the end. I think she does not want to take the dog to a shelter because she will have to pay a surrendering fee (some are $40). Hopefully she will come to her senses and do what is best for the dog and take it to a shelter.

Sounds like Craig’s List to me.  They flag off almost all puppy ads.  They assume that anyone with an intact puppy is a breeder and flag them.

i really don’t think you should help her find a home for the pup.  and don’t take the pup from her, obviously.  if she surrenders him and gets flagged for that at the shelter, it’s a good thing.  a surrender fee is the least she can do.

I totally agree with Beka! You should encourage her to contact the Humane Society you have been volunteering with.

Have you tried contacting a rescue group? That’s not right people are flagging for trying to find a home for the pup, I can understand if you’re asking $100 or more for a pup but $20!

Also have you posted an add on Dogster.com or Petfinder.com?
