hi i have a 4 month old holland lop. i had her since she was around 2.5 months. currently housing her inside a cage. the plan is to toilet train her and set up a bigger enclosure where she will be permanently housed.

i only just started toilet training a few days ago by letting her out of her cage and giving her some space outside to roam with a litter pan just outside her cage. but i’ve noticed she pees tiny little bits, sometimes just drops, but not at any specific area whenever she comes out of her cage.

is there potentially something wrong with hr urinary control? i’m a little paranoid about this because my previous bunny developed urinary incontinence due to a cancer on the spine and he couldn’t control his pee either.

there is a younger male rabbit housed right next to her so i’m not really sure if it is persistent marking or if it is some medical issue…

        thanks for any insight.

i’m not sure about the peeing problem… could it be nervousness from being let out for the first time?  or marking?

you say you just started littertraining… is she littertrained in her cage?  does she have a box that she uses with regularity in there?  the reason i ask… if she’s not used to a a litterbox in her cage, she may not know what to do with one outside the cage.  what kind of set-up is she in?

Hi and welcome picturehouse! Hmm, she could be marking territory by spraying by the male. I too would suggest getting her litter trained in her enclosed area first, otherwise if you give too much space to roam they tend to mark everywhere. By the way, when was her last annual check-up? I am so sorry to hear about your last bunny.

she is in a cage right now. a tiny litter box at one corner that i just added when i started toilet training. one more litter pan outside. most of the day she is in her cage but let out to play once in the morning and evening.

up till recently, i didn’t actively try to train her. she pees more or less everywhere in her cage. i was planning to set up a larger pen anyway and give her lots of space to roam. so the entire cage could be her toilet if she liked. guess i’ll have to start smaller.

with the tiny litter box inside the cage, she seems to like going in to pee so i’m hoping for the best.

check out the bunny info > litterbox training section at the top of the page.  there are some tips of what you can do to help speed along the process.  if you have litter material in her whole cage that may confuse her as well.  put litter in the litterbox only, and a nice layer of hay over top, and try towels or grass mats in the rest of the cage.

if she’s not spayed yet, that will help her as well, but you may want to wait a month or two longer until she’s a bit older.

my guess is one of two things – she’s at the start of becoming hormonal since she’s 4 months old or else she’s having some urinary tract issue. My first thought is that it’s more likely a territorial marking thing, especially since there’s a boy right near her. But it is always better to check with a vet when there’s a possibility that it’s medical related.
