Hi everyone! Today was my first day volunteering at an adoption event. I loved it, but my mom said I could only stay 1hour and 30mins. . Oh well. She said no to fostering because it would have to include her driving to get it, adoption events, ect. And my dad is going to start another job so he’ll have 2 jobs and we won’t see him much. I can’t go to another adoption event next week because we’re busy. Anyone else have ideas on how to help animals that doesn’t include my parents help? Thanks!

Ask the humane society you volunteered with if you can help collect items for them or see if you can do something with your peers at school to help them. You will have to be creative about going about doing that but I know that won’t be a problem for you.

Some kinds of volunteering can be done on your computer at home.  Find out if they need help with their website, petfinder, craig’s list or other web site.  Our rescue has a myspace and livejournal site too.

Defiantly keep trying, I don’t know how old you are but I hope you get the support you need from your family.

I was like you as a kid and I am now in my forties, the love of animals is not a fad it’s with you for life.

It is a special person that has compassion for those that can not speak and can not look after themselves.

Good on you and don’t give up.

Keep trying because you are needed somewhere for sure!  How old are you?  It’s true a lot of the rescues won’t take kids under 16. It’s unfortunate for you because you have had such a great experience taking care of your friends’ bunny  and doing such an incredible job.  Keep looking – there has to be some way to help.

I am under 16 so at adoption events I have to have a parent come with me. But at special events I can just go and help out without a parent. But still then my mom has to drop me off and pick me up, so…..

I will definently keep looking though. The lady in charge of the rescue I work at says she is going to email me a link to a website about helping pit bulls. It is in my area so maybe this will work out!

do you need a parent with you, or can it be another adult?

most people are very busy nowadays…   but i really hope your mother will allow you to attend at least some of the events.  so many kids (not you obviously, but other kids your age) are getting involved in bad things (i’m not gonna list the bad things… we all know what they are…)  i hope your parents are proud of you in that you are trying really hard to do the right things.  when you’re of age… WHOA… WATCH OUT!!!  there are gonna be some lucky animals that will be helped out by you!

Thanks Beka! I am not sure if it has to be my parent. hmm…. Petsmart’s rule is that you must be 16 to volunteer without an adult, but there are adults everywhere. My mom wasn’t even with me while I was walking the dogs. I’ll email the lady that runs the rescue.
