a few days ago i noticed a small bunny hanging around outside my house. white with a grey nose and ears. seemed shy but not at all afraid of people. definitely not a wild bunny. i didn’t want it to get killed by a car or a dog or an owl or anything so i got out my pet carrier and put an old towel and some bunny food inside and set it on the porch. very quickly the little bunny hopped into the carrier. yay!!!!! i saved the bunny! unfortunately as soon as i brought her (i decided it looked like a girl bunny) in the house both her and lion-o went NUTS! i had been thinking that if they got along i would try to bond them and keep her. but obviously that wasn’t going to work out… it was after the shelter had closed for the day so i had to keep her overnight. i put lion-o in the bedroom and shut the door so i could let her out for awhile. he sat in the bedroom and thumped loudly the entire time she was out. she was a very cuddly bunny and loved lettuce. in the morning i took her to the shelter, but they said because of a city ordinance they couldn’t accept rabbits, so they called a local rabbit rescue that they work with and i ended up taking her there. the man at the rabbit rescue was very nice (he said she looks like a mini rex) and said he knows of a little girl who is looking for a small friendly bunny and he thinks this little bunny will be just what she’s looking for. so the bunny will hopefully have a new forever home very soon.

but now lion-o is being very naughty. he’s chewing on the walls and carpet again, which he hasn’t been doing at all since he got neutered. and then last night he jumped up in bed with me and peed all over my comforter! i feel like a bad bunny mommy because i brought this strange bunny into his house and now he’s having to go around and re-mark everything as "his". i’ve been making an extra effort to give him tons of attention so he feels loved and knows that i wasn’t trying to replace him or anything evil like that. also, he’s been very clingy since then, even following me into the bathroom where he used to never go because he doesn’t like the slippery tiled floor.

any suggestions from you more experienced bunny moms and dads? is this something he will get over in time or have i damaged his trust in me forever?

You saved the little one’s life.  That is important.  Lion-O will forgive you, he is just upset that his favorite person might be stolen away by another bunny.  Have you made sure that all smell of this bunny is gone?  Washed any linens she was in contact with? Bleached the carrier and and any flooring or pens she might have been in contact with?  Getting rid of her scent is very important.

Animals are very forgiving. I’m sure he will be back to himself in a few days. Good for you for helping that bunny. Who could just dump a little bunny like that. I would take Osprey’s advice and make sure all the scent of the other bunny is gone.

It is so great that you were able to save a bunny! Domestic buns do not live long in the wild, so you definitely saved the bunnies life.

It is quite normal for bunnies to be jealous buns. It will probably take Lion-O a couple days to realize that his “competition” is no longer there and relax again Make sure to wash the clothes that smelled like the other bunny, as well as any areas where the bunny was. Try using some vinegar to really get rid of the smell. I would imagine that it will just take a couple of days for him to calm back down after the “intrusion” But I don’t think it is anything negative against you, in fact, its a compliment that he got so jealous that another bun was in his house – he is trying to protect his good home!

Yep, I agree with everyone else – you did the absolute right thing. Actually if you are planning on bonding Lion-O these are indications of the kinds of behaviors you could expect.

Thank you for saving that bunny too.

Yay saving stray bunnies! (Less yay to stray bunnies…) Monty was very upset when I brought Humphrey home. It’s really quite funny, actually, because they’re starting to learn things from each other (bad behaviors, mostly…) and have like… smilutaneously drinking contests. >__<

I hope that sweet little girl finds a good home. It always seems the little strays are so surprisingly sweet… ;___; Why would anyone throw a bunny away?
