a few days ago i noticed a small bunny hanging around outside my house. white with a grey nose and ears. seemed shy but not at all afraid of people. definitely not a wild bunny. i didn’t want it to get killed by a car or a dog or an owl or anything so i got out my pet carrier and put an old towel and some bunny food inside and set it on the porch. very quickly the little bunny hopped into the carrier. yay!!!!! i saved the bunny! unfortunately as soon as i brought her (i decided it looked like a girl bunny) in the house both her and lion-o went NUTS! i had been thinking that if they got along i would try to bond them and keep her. but obviously that wasn’t going to work out… it was after the shelter had closed for the day so i had to keep her overnight. i put lion-o in the bedroom and shut the door so i could let her out for awhile. he sat in the bedroom and thumped loudly the entire time she was out. she was a very cuddly bunny and loved lettuce. in the morning i took her to the shelter, but they said because of a city ordinance they couldn’t accept rabbits, so they called a local rabbit rescue that they work with and i ended up taking her there. the man at the rabbit rescue was very nice (he said she looks like a mini rex) and said he knows of a little girl who is looking for a small friendly bunny and he thinks this little bunny will be just what she’s looking for. so the bunny will hopefully have a new forever home very soon.
but now lion-o is being very naughty. he’s chewing on the walls and carpet again, which he hasn’t been doing at all since he got neutered. and then last night he jumped up in bed with me and peed all over my comforter! i feel like a bad bunny mommy because i brought this strange bunny into his house and now he’s having to go around and re-mark everything as "his". i’ve been making an extra effort to give him tons of attention so he feels loved and knows that i wasn’t trying to replace him or anything evil like that. also, he’s been very clingy since then, even following me into the bathroom where he used to never go because he doesn’t like the slippery tiled floor.
any suggestions from you more experienced bunny moms and dads? is this something he will get over in time or have i damaged his trust in me forever?
