Does anyone perchance know the kcal/g or calories per pound for Oxbow Bunny Basics-T and 15/23 pellets?

I’ve looked online, but can’t find anything, and the company hasn’t responded to my question.

        Thanks,

        Alex

Hi Alex, calories per pound are not listed on the package, just the guaranteed analysis. Sorry I couldn’t help.

I also poked around online and couldn’t find the answer either. I know the timothy pellets are supposedly fairly low in calories. Hopefully you’ll hear back from oxbow.

In case anyone is interested, here are the numbers given to me by Oxbow (given as “digestible energy”):

              Bunny Basics-T = 2816 kcal/kg or 6209 kcal/lb
              Bunny Basics-15/23 = 3030 kcal/kg or 6681 kcal/lb

Interestingly, American Pet Diner’s website lists the “digestible energy” of its Alfalfa Pellets at “not less than” 1200 kcal/lb.

And, if I’m reading it right, Purina Mills Hi-Fiber Lab Diet comes in at a paltry 2.01 kcal/g, or just about 2000 kcal/kg. No wonder we fed our buns 1/2 a cup of that stuff a day and didn’t see nearly the weight gain we did when we switched to Oxbow…

The next step for me is to get the kcal/kg info for American Pet Diner Timmy and a top-end number for the alfalfa.

              Peace,
              Alex

                Correction:

I didn’t do the math right on the conversion from kg to lbs on the Oxbow pellets:
                Bunny Basics – T = 1272 kcal/lb
                Bunny Basics – 15/23 = 1363 kcal/lb

That’s what you get when you try to shift from writing on Trinitarian theology to doing bunny food math; multiplication and division get screwy in the whole “three in one” bit.

Yowsa, yes it would get a bit confusing.
