So Spinner’s owner forgot to bring her cage to mu house (I am pet sitting). I kept her in a box, but she jumps out (duh, she’s a bunny). Spinner’s owner also brought a cat carrier that is not very big. So should I keep her in the bow with the top closed or the small cat carrier? Maybe someone lives in Northern Va and has a free cage? Thanks!

If you have a baby pen or x-pen, they make great set-ups for a temporary cage. If you have a dog crate, that works as well. Otherwise you can make a small NIC cage or even make larger panels to make a make-shift x-pen.

The box or cat carrier are way too small to be used as a cage. I’d also recommend an xpen or dog crate, you might try craigslist.com, since people often post things for free or sale on there. If there is wire on the floor of the crate, put newspaper down on top of it to protect Spinner’s paws.

Also, if you don’t have an x-pen on crate you might let her use of your bathrooms and add in a few litterboxes.

Ok thanks! I will try craigslist. I can’t keep her in a bathroom or other room because she is not litter box trained or spayed!

oh my goodness!  why would Spinner’s person forget to bring a cage?  what did they think you were gonna do with her?  i would definitely try to have them come to BinkyBunny or House Rabbit Society to learn about rabbit care.  Spinner needs to have someone looking out for her who has her best interests at heart.  i don’t know the whole situation but this really concerns me.  this is one of the unfortunate things about giving pets as gifts… so often the person on the receiving end has no idea what to do and the animal suffers for it in the end.

Spinner’s owner lives 1 hour away from me and was in a hurry to go I guess. She didn’t have time to go back to pick it up and bringit back to my house. I will probably call her and go buy a cage that she can pay me for later.

I have to agree with Beka, it sounds like Spinner’s owner hasn’t given all that much thought to Spinner’s care. I do hope you’ll encourage her to learn more about rabbit care.

xpens are great and easy to transport, so I would call the bunny’s owner, let her know the situation and she could benefit from having it when she gets her bunny back.
