Leo started a new behavior I would say for about a week.  He has been napping in the litterbox.  I mean sprawled out, w/ his head on the lip, eyes closed.  I’ve caught him waiting for Jessica to finish her pooping and then go into the box to lounge/sleep.  Is this ok?  Is it normal for some buns?  He still sleeps in his bed w/ Jessi and likes to sprawl out post eating on his food shelf.  When he is out, he usually hides out under the couch or chairs.

This weekend I got a 2 nd litterbox to accommodate the corner that Jessi prefers to poop in.  The litterbox is a small corner box.  He even sleeps in there.  Does he just prefer sleeping in his waste and therefore I shouldn’t bother cleaning out his bed anymore?

My Monty started sleeping in his litterbox at one point. (Perhaps it’s a desire to feel cozy and squished?) So I bought him a second one, and he uses one as a bed and one as a litterbox, now. It’s very strange….

i wonder if they take comfort in the smell?  everytime i clean baby’s litter she runs around during, and then immediately goes in & poops after.  makes me think she’s saying "hey… why’d ya do that?"

Same here. My bunny doesn’t like to sleep in her corner litterbox, but she loves sitting there. And she also makes sure that there are always pellets in the litter – she’ll deposit fresh ones the moment I clean it out. I have found that if I ever want to know exactly how my bun’s movements are, I’d just clean the pan and then go back in 3 mins to check.

I am not sure what the behavior could mean. My only thought, besides the scent, is that it might be a bit warmer than the rest of the place.

Stormy likes to sit on his “potty” while he eats hay. He’s a great multi-tasker, eat and poop at the same time.

I was wondering if it had to do something w/ his poopy scent.  Their bunny bed is a high back bunny litterbox w/ a rag rug in it.  He seems to use that as his primary bed, but enjoys laying in the litterbox.  I was starting to wonder if instead of putting him on the "couch" for the night, Jessi puts him in the litterbox?

To me it is because it is where they feel the safest but everybun is different!

Meadow does this sometimes.  her box is always pretty clean so it doesn’t bother me.  as long as she’s comfy and happy…

and she hops in her box immediately after i clean it too.  once when i first got her i was having company over… so last minute i cleaned her box (to have a nice clean atmosphere for our company, i guess… silly i know…) and she hopped in and pooped immediately.  i got out the litter box scoop again and scooped out the pile, thinking she’d be done for awhile… nope.  she hopped right back in and pooped again.  that’s what i get for trying to "look nice for company"  lol…

Radar does that sometimes… it’s usually after I clean the litter box all the way… fresh hay… It’s acceptable for a rabbit to sleep in their own food… and poo on it.

My bun has 2 litterboxes, one in his cage and one in his room.  He never has pottied in the one outside his cage, not even one pee or pellet – but he loves to lie in it, stretch out, flop, dig, groom, etc. But, never potty. On the other hand, he religiously uses his litterbox in his cage. Even if we’re playing in his room, he will stop what he’s doing and hop right in there and go!  It’s the most precious thing ever.

Now I have mum and 6 babies, I have two litter boxes in their hutch.

The babies like to be in the litter box all the time, they go in the one upstairs and mum sits in the downstairs one.

When my bunnies go to my parents house, I have my spare cage with an attaching corner litter box there, and for whateve reason Kahlua will not get out of it…She has to hang out in it and sleep in it…Kokanee gets mad at her for not getting out of the liter box and its total comedy to see her try to move her sister out of the way to go to the bathroom… Kahlua usually needs a bath after being at her grandma’s house hehe

Ha-ha! I love it when bunnies do something they know we won’t find very pleasing!
