        Hey guys

I am in a pickle and not sure what to do. I have 4 bunnies; 2 Lionheads and 2 Holland Lops. Everyone is separated as no one is of age to get the snipper or spay.

Now…I’m going home (a 4 hour drive) for 8 days for Xmas.

Originally I had a friend who was going to come feed, play, clean the bunnies, guinea pigs and hedgehogs. However, she backed out and now I am stuck. I asked another friend, who is more experienced with animals and a better choice, and she won’t get back to me, even after repeated emails.

I personally have no one else to ask to take care of them.

So…now I wonder if I should just take everyone home for the 8 days. I don’t *want* to do this because I know traveling and new places are SOOOO stressful for bunnies… But I don’t know what else to do. I don’t have a ton to spend if I was boarding them (and even that would be more stressful I think) and I have no friends left in reserve to take care of them.

Do you think the buns will get massively stressed by moving home for a week and then moving back?

What a shame if I was closer I would offer to help.

yeah that does suck… i’m a whole lot closer to you but still not close enough to help out.  i remember a thread about travelling with buns & i’ll see if i can find it.  there was a lot of great info in it incase you do end up taking them all along with you.  apparently it can be done!

a more affordable option to boarding could be to hire someone to ‘pet sit’.  finding some one reliable is the key and you could start by asking your vet/shelter if they recommend any one.  i’ve never opted to do this myself, but a friend of mine did this with her cats when she was new to the city.  her experience was good.  if you look into this i’d def ask for references to call unless the person is referred by some one you trust.  good luck!

            i’m back… here’s a link to that travel thread:

We’ve taken ours from Edmonton to Winnipeg for Christmas, before we found a pet sitter! We ended up finding one through Pet Sitters International (I think that’s the name). We’re totally impressed with our pet sitter – she had the right answers for all the questions, came with a nice portfolio of inforamation including her insurance and bonding info, and is reasonably priced. Plus it’s nice to know that the place is being checked on while we’re gone.

Maybe you could try looking online for a reliable program like ScooterandAnnette? I can understand if you’re hesitant to let anyone have access to the apartment though. If you really must take them – I have taken bunnies on a much longer trip than that (when I was moving). You’ll just need to take a lot of time to plan ahead for not only what they will need for the ride, but also everything they will need for living on their temporary vacation. I’d recommend bringing some treats as well, to check from time to time to make sure that they are eating, and that the new circumstances have not caused any tummy upset

                  Good news guys!

My other friend FINALLY contacted me and said she could do it! Phew! I am still scared and sad to leave them here for 8 days without me…but at least my friend knows animals and will take them out separately to play!

wow, that’s a big relief that she can take care of them! You might also want to complete the pet sitters guide on here, since it’s a very helpful way to gather all the information she is likely to need.

ScooterandAnnette, since I am in edmonton too, do you think you could refer your petsitter to me? My boyfriend’s mom usually watches them for me, but I hate to *expect* her to watch them always and I am interested in a back up plan should she be unavailable…

Lionlop if only you were a bit closer, I would be pumped to take your four bunnies for you!! Glad your friend will do it though!
