We’ve done it! Jessica Rabbit was spade yesterday, she looks very sore and miserable right now! but the wound is healthy and she’s ok. Couldn’t be more happy. She’s eating and pooping very well. Loves the curly kale and brocolli! Not seen her drink much though. Should I be worried? Did notice a bit of teeth knashing when she was back from the vet, but she’s had a lot of pain killers so she’s hopefully ok. Probably normal to be in pain, but a little brighter this morning. To all those about to do this for your rabbit, it was not as frightening as I first thought. Lots of love to all the bunnies who will be uncomfortable for a while in the sake of good health!

That’s great! Just keep her warm and comfy and she should be back to normal within 48 to 72 hours.

Baby didn’t seem to drink much after her surgery (had a mass removed from her belly) so i tried to feed her lots of water soaked veggies.  celery has lots of water & she was happy to nibble on some (i cut it in pieces to break up the stringys).  i also left a lid with water in it right next to her so she could sip from it if she felt like it because, like you, i was a bit worried.  sounds like it went very well if she’s eating & pooping!  yay!

edit:  just thought i’d add… i recently learned introducing new foods can mess up their poops so it prolly best not to add tonnes of new stuff.  just… if you’re really concerned about her getting enough water you could try soaking the veg she already eats & making sure its nice & wet.

What do you guys think about juice? I think it was on here someone suggested adding apple juice to water to try to get them to drink it?…I mean sugar wise you want to be carefull….What if you took 100% real apple juice and diluted it 50/50 that would reduce calories and maybe encourage her to drink?

What do you all think of this? (Just an idea!)

Giving them an apple slice as a treat is fine so I’d imagine a little apple juice is okey – I’d say a tablespoon per cup of water should work. Just don’t leave it in a bottle for days as it can mold.

I’ve also heard the tip of putting apple juice in their water – I usually just put a small amount it, for me, it never really got the buns much more interested, but I think it is worth giving it a try. As others mentioned, just be sure it is 100% apple juice. I also like to give the tip of breaking up the cilantro and parsley stems – for some reason that always tempted my recovering bunnies even more than just offering the parsley and cilantro as is.

^^^breaking up the parsley and cilantro?  to release the smell?  or for another reason?  i usually always crumple Meadow’s herbs b/c they smell so good!
