I got sent this e-mail from the Rabbit Welfare Association in the UK… As you guys always seem to have so many beautiful photo’s and video’s of your bunnies I thought you might be able to help them out. I think it sounds like a really cool idea! Any thing to try to help bunnies….. where ever they are in the world!
P.S. Jaffa was the founder of the RWA’s bunny who died just last year, there are some lovely photo’s on their web page.
Could your bunny be a film star?
Some of you may know that we are planning to launch the Jaffa Club, a rabbit club especially for children during National Rabbit week (21 – 27 January 2008). The ethos behind this is that we have long been aware that children are generally the driving force behind the purchase of pet rabbits owned by families. Although well-intentioned, parents are often ill-advised on the basic requirements of rabbits, and tens of thousands of them end up abandoned in rescue centres every year. Worse; as revealed in an RSPCA survey in 2006, 40% of them die through neglect. The RWAF hopes to address this sad state of affairs by launching ‘The Jaffa Club’, which will be targeted at school children and will aim to educate them on every aspect of rabbit welfare.
As part of this, we are developing web resources for children. One of the most appealing features we’re planning, is the ability to download short video clips, and/or podcasts of rabbits engaged in various pursuits. However, capturing rabbit activities takes time and patience and this is where we need your help. We’d like you to send us any video clips of your rabbits’ which we could upload to the Jaffa Club site. Ideally, these would have an educational slant, but fun things may be acceptable too. Examples of what we’re looking for is perhaps two rabbits grooming each other, rabbits playing together, rabbits binkying, rabbits having fun with cardboard boxes etc.
We’d prefer it if sound were included, so it might be useful to write a quick script first, but suitable silent recordings may also be used (Charlie Chaplin style!) and sound edited in at a later date. We’re not after very long recordings, even recordings of a minute or two will be considered. Many digital cameras have a video capture feature these days, so why not dust them off and make your bunny a star?
