So, when my sister and I were little, on days that it was far to cold to stay outside for very long, my mom would scoop buckets of snow into the bathtub and let us play in it. Then we didn’t have to mess around with snow suits and scarves and all those bulky winter things.

I’m wondering if anyone has every done anything similar with rabbits? We had our first big snowfall (almost 12 inches) here this weekend and when I’ve tracked snow into the apartment Lion-O is very curious about it. However, since he’s never been outside in winter and the only way I’d be able to take him out would be to put him on a harness and leash, I was thinking about putting some snow in the bathtub and letting him see what he thinks about it.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions or cautions or anything?

          what sweet pictures!

i’m not sure that it’d hurt anything if you put some snow at one end of the tub and him at the other end.  if he wanted to check it out he could.  i wouldn’t force him into it tho… let him explore it if he wants.  he’d probably just end up licking it or trying to eat it.

Wow what is snow? I have never seen it before.

If bunny doesn’t like the bath you could always put snow on a tray and leave it on the bathroom floor.

Im sure bunny would love to investigate it.

              LOL!

Snow noun Cold, wet, white substance which falls from the sky and causes cars to veer off roads as if possessed. Used by children and adults alike as a form of entertainment for shaping into both balls to be hurled at moving targets and for forming various humans, animals, and objects. Mainly employed on college campuses in the sculpting of massive human genitalia.

That’s so sweet! And what a lovely idea!!! I used to LOVE defrosting the freezer…. MAGIC SNOW!!! lol Tho it did put me off when i had an “ice pop” and licked into a bit of frozen bread crumb!! never tried the buns in snow, Took Brian outside last year when we had our only sprinkling that lasted about an hour ;-), wasn’t overly impressed.

Oh the images of frozen genitalia…best way to keep them in a man’s case.

well we just got a fresh dumping here in the great white north   it’s too frigid out tho… i think the shock of temp difference would be bad?  i might just try the ‘tray of snow’ idea & see if Baby pays any attention to it at all.  interesting idea….

brr, I don’t think I’d risk taking the buns outside, but might bring just a lil inside to see what they thought of it.

although – it brings up a different idea entirely…

maybe we should host a build a snowbunny contest this winter! 🙂

What cute pictures. Don’t think I’d try that with the buns though. Although you might try putting a little in a bowl and let him sniff it or lick it to see what he thinks.

hey didn’t i see some pics here recently with bunnies in harnesses in the snow?  i remember thinking they looked like sled bunnies… mush mush!  lol…  i wonder how they got aclimatized (is that a word?)  i just know my pampered bun would not fare well by cold temps like her wild cousins!

what great pics of Pepper!  thank you for posting those!  how sweet.  (and how nice of you to bring all that snow in for… that must’ve been a pain to clean up when she was done… lol.)  i don’t think the tub idea is a bad idea… at least then it’d melt and just go down the drain.

I will admit that sometimes I have a naughty side to me. When I had my bun back in the 80’s and I lived on the east coast, when we had our first snowfall, I took my bun outside and tossed her into it. She did the “OMG what’s this?!!!” jump a couple of times and then took to digging into it immediately. She had so much fun that I couldn’t get her out. All I could see on occassion were two black ears popping above the snowline.

i’ve been too busy the last few days to haul snow in, but i’m hoping to try tonight after work.

i’ll let you all know what lion-o thinks of it!

It actually wasn’t much of a clean-up.  If you look at the pics, you can see that it’s mostly on a cheap rug I keep in the kitchen.  Once her feets got cold, I just picked up the rug and took a few steps out to the back porch and shook it off the balcony.   A quick once-over with a mop for the melty-bits and all done.

And once her feet got warm again, she came back in the kitchen about 10minutes later and was lookng all over the place for the fun white stuff.  Where did it go?
