yesterday i noticed tiny poo droppings in Baby’s litter that are half the size of normal ones or smaller.  they were well formed but just very very small.  last night she pooped normally.  could this be a result of trying different greens?  some of you might remember… last month i started to restrict her pellets to a 1/4 cup daily & increased her greens to 2 cups packed daily with her unlimited timothy hay.  she had previously been on unlimited pellets & hay with only sparse greens (maybe a handful per day).  i’m wondering if this could be an ‘experiment with different greens’ situation of if there may be another health problem to be wary of?  i’ve been giving her some of whateve greens i have on hand (light on the kale, more parsley, dandelion, celery cut up & leaves, carrot greens).

I’d think it is just fluctuations, but I’m not sure! Just keep an eye on her for any other changes, I think it is good that she is back to normal size poopies…

Can I ask where you buy dandelion from? I want some!

p.s.  if you see another thread that touches on this let me know… i scanned the poop posts quickly first but none seemed about small poops (no mucus around them btw)

thanks k&k… your post must’ve narrowly beat my ‘p.s.’  lol

i find dandelion in my regular grocery store around where they sell the bok choy & fresh herbs & bunched beets with tops intact.  just got a wierd look from the young cashier when buying this last bunch too… he said "dandelion… really?"  lol… i told him it was for my rabbit & left out the part that i eat it too

I know-as soon as it posted mine it posted yours….hehe

Do you eat it? I think it’s supposed to be good for you!

Ok, I never knew you could buy it in a grocery store! We just got a walmart superstore that has awesome produce (even has raddichio) so next time I go I will look for dandelion!

Hmm, usually small poo droppings are because of a blockage or build up in the GI tract.  It could also be related to the new diet though. Is she drinking enough water?  You might want to slow down with the introduction of new things in the diet, are you trying something new one week at a time? Her poos are back to normal now though?

Smaller poos can also be called by insufficient water.  Have you checked if the buns’ water supply is OK?

Encouraging Baby to eat hay is a good idea, since it can help get things back on track and moving. Very small poops are the sign there’s a potential problem or blockage in the gi tract, so keep a careful eye for the next few days.

It’s recommended to introduce any new veggies one at a time, in case they have a bad reaction to it. It’s also a good idea to avoid any drastic dietary changes since they can be a shock to their system.

thanks for the info every one!  i give her fresh water daily… rinse & refill her bottle thingy plus she drinks the water in the bottom of her greens bowl, also fresh 2x per day.  all looks well with the water consumption even based on how much she’s been peeing.  i’ve been giving her fresh pinches of hay to try to encourage her to eat more and she’s always got plenty to much on in several spots in her room.

i think, now, this is due to the greens i’ve been giving her.  initially i was sharing my spinach & kale & parsley with her but read about using spnach & kale sparingly so – about the time of her surgery – i introduced celery (for extra water), carrot tops and dandelion.  i basically just started giving her a new green when the old green ran out, so i think this was the problem.  my poor girl!  oh how she suffers for her mommy’s mistakes   anyways… her poops have been fully normal for 24 hrs so i’m pretty sure she’s not blocked thank goodness!  i’ll keep a close eye on her & be more careful about changing up her diet.  thanks again

ps… yup, i eat all these greens myself too.  i make smoothies out of em which sounds gross but tastes great!  just blend fruit + a handfull of greens + water & you have a thick delicious drink.  easy way to get a good amount of greens when i dont feel like eating salad and its an awesome meal substitute in a hurry since theyre so filling.

update… i peeked in on baby just now & saw a what looked like a clump of cecal pellets under her dresser.  this has happened from time to time over the years & has never alarmed me.  when i went to pick them up & clean the spot with paper towels they kind of all separated.  they were sticky like normal but not clumped together.  i wonder if this is what was in her litter?  cecal pellets that were a bit dryed out & separated.  i’m thinking its possible for the cecal pellets to change like this with a change in diet and hopefully thats whats going on.   can anyone confirm this or is it not possible? i’m still keeping a close eye on her hoping to see regular poos in any case.

often an overproduction of cecals is due to being over fed sugar or protein. what kind of pellets is she eating?
often reducing pellets and eliminating treats will cut down the over production of cecals.

she’s eating pellets from bulk barn  and the last time i bought some i checked the nutritional tag.  they have 18% fibre and 15% protein.  i think thats a little high for protein right?  shes been eating them all along and in unlimited amounts until a month ago when i cut it to 1/4 cup daily.  i also upped her greens then and i think shes eating more hay to fill up (although i can’t be totally sure since she’s never eaten much hay). this dietary change must have reduced her protein.  maybe different cecal droppings is due to that?

Don’t be so hard on yourself babybunsmum, you’re doing a great job! 18% fiber is minimum for fiber but 20-25% is best and the protein should be a maximum of 14% so it’s not all THAT bad.
