How much treats per day?

  I think I may have been giving my buns treats too often. I’m trying to cut down to see if that may be responsible for Stormy’s GI Statis episodes. I was feeding about 3 treats (small pieces of fruit or carrot- raisin sized pieces) per day. Is that too much?
  
  How much treats do you feed? It’s so hard to say no to those little faces!!! One of my buns is about 2.5 and the other is about 4-5 lbs. I bought some dried papaya and am trying to only feed a small piece plus 1 other treat per day.

  I usually give Maryann anywhere from 5-15 raisins a day. She’s 5 pounds and thus far, she’s had no sort of GI issues.

  my vet gave me the guideline of: 2 tablespoons of treat food (total combined) daily per 2 lbs of bunny weight. dryed foods should be half that amount. so far her recommendations have seemed on par with what i’ve read here.

  A rule of thumb I’ve used is no more than 1/2 teaspoon per pound of body weight, and the sugar in dried fruits is much more concentrated so you’ll want to be extra careful with them. I know it is very hard for me to tell my two no as well. They just have adorable faces and those eyes…. Some rabbits can actually have such a sensitivity that they cannot have any treats at all and the sugar really has to be watched closely. How much were you giving Stormy before?

  Do your bunnies like fresh herbs? We often give our bunnies treats of a sprig of basil or mint, or maybe a branch of parsely or sage. They also enjoy an occasional whole snow pea. These treats are healthy, and can be given guilt free.

  Yes I think I will start giving “green treats” instead of just fruits. When Stormy begs sometimes I try to trick him and I give him a hay “fuzzy” and he sort of just looks at me like “listen, lady…”
