how do you store your greens?  i can only get to the store about every 5-7 days… and the last day or so, they look a bit iffy.  i saw a bag on another site (and i didn’t bookmark the page and for the life of me, i cannot find the link now…) that said it could store greens up to 21 days… does anyone have any experience with this… or know where it’s available?  it’s only about 5 or 6 dollars for two reusable bags.  i may get it just to try it out.

otherwise.  how do you store greens?  what works or doesn’t work to preserve them the longest?

I’ve heard about those bags but haven’t tried them…Let us know if you try them, I think in principle they are a great idea!!
I store greens the same as my mom always did…I line the vegetable crisper in my fridge with paper towels and keep them in there. It is very important to store tomatoes away from any other fruits and veggies as the gas they give off makes other veggies/fruits rot faster. Greens don’t usually last very long and I find I have to buy more in about five days so I only buy enough to last that long…Carrots last forevery, apples too. I’ve some cabbage i bought them that the buggers won’t eat that has kept for over two weeks (but I guess is destined for the garbage anyways )…

but you don’t store them in plastic bags or anything?  just lay them in the drawer open?  hmmm.  my mom never cooked, so i never learned this kinda stuff from her… lol.

I had problems keeping greens fresh too.  Then I found an organic farm not too far away.  Greens from the farm last longer than a week and a half!  I suspect this is in large part due to freshness (well worth finding an organic store that has a local supplier), but also, they store all greens to sell with leaves separated & washed in plastic bags with twist ties.  I keep them this way when I take them home and haven’t thrown out ANY since!  I guess it helps that the bun & I both eat up 2 cups a day

Yes, I take them out of the plastic bags when I get home…It just seems that they get kind of slimy in them, since they are wet…The paper towels let them drip and stay dry…The ony thing I keep in bags are mushrooms in paper bags (for me, not the bunnies!! )

I buy dandelion and most of my greens from Safeway, the only organic thing I get
really are baby carrots that have the leafy part still attached. Anyway, if the dandelion
looks wet from being sprayed at the market, I lay them out to dry for a bit…sometimes
they are wet on the inside more than on the outside…if thats the case I cut them
up into segments and then put them in a large dry plastic bag (usually the safeway
bag that I brought them home in.) Then I leave the bag open and let them
dry a bit before storing it in the fridge. Basically, I feel that if the greens are dry they
last a bit longer, but about a week is how long they last before they get kinda wilty..
but I usually like buying greens once a week anyhow…so that its fresh when Floppy
                      eats it!

                        I recently bought this: http://www.foreverfresh.us/fridge.htm
It worked pretty well and did keep the veggies freshed, but cost $6 and only lasts about a month.

I always make sure to un-band my veggies, since that helps keep them fresher too. I keep mine in the plastic bag they came in sealed with a twist tie in the veggie drawer.

i just picked this bag up for $6 last week & it works pretty well for easier-to-wilt greens like dandelion / herbs.  bought it from a local organic store.  it’s a very loose weave natural cotton.  the idea is that when you put slighty damp greens in, the bag abosrbs the water & keeps the air moist while letting gasses escape.  the store owner swears by it since they cover all their produce with damp burlap sheets to keep everything fresh.
