Yesterday, I was cleaning out Thumpers cage.  He was out and playing in the living room.  Well, in a split second, he jumped in the cage and bit my hand!  OUCH!!!  No blood, but boy did that hurt.

We coaxed him back out with the promise of broccoli (I don’t think there is something he doesn’t like ) and then I continued to clean.

After, I turned my back on him cuz I was still mad.  Then he started pulling on my shirt and nudging me to pet him. That silly little rascal, boy do I love him!

Do any of your buns act like this? I know that he is very protective of HIS space…but geeze, I just need to make sure that he stays out and has no way of getting back in when I am cleaning.

Two of my bunnies are incredibly cage protective. One is a very alpha acting male that frunts at me whenever I move his litterbox – and the other is my blind bunny. I actually get bitten by my blind bunny much more often though because when she senses someone in her area she can turn and bite REAL fast! It is not unusual for a bunny to get cage protective. It is a good idea to make sure he’s not around when you are cleaning his cage, or if you have a hand free and he is around, you can keep one hand on his forehead and pet him while you clean with the other hand (requires much practice )

yes, as Moobunnay said some bunnies are VERY protective about their cages. I’ve had some that I even need to put in the carrier or an x-pen while I do the cage change. Another tip is to make a high pitch yelp, so Thumper understands it hurts.
