I’m so glad to hear it seems to be working out and going smoother for you in the grooming department!  I have been trying to prepare Finn for grooming in stages, and it’s been going well so far.  Simply put, I’ve got one word for you:

BRIBE.

Each evening, I have been offering Finn the special treat of little carrot bits while sitting in my lap on the sofa. Gradually, I go from gently petting Finn with my free hand, to brushing with the plastic bristle brush I have. So far, Finn hasn’t so much as flinched at the brush.  With that angora hair, let’s just hope this lasts!   I’m not brushing very hard.

The main thing is, when Finn is fixed on those treats, nothing much seems to distract or bother him/her.  You might see if that works as a distraction for your sweet bun.  I began this evening ritual initially a couple of weeks ago when we got Finn with treats only.  By the time the brush got worked into the routine, Finn was already comfortable with the idea of sitting in my lap for a snack. Lol… I don’t have that problem. My buns run to me when they see the brush.  I use the round rubber brush usually found in the cat section. The hair sticks to it, I can’t hurt the buns with it, and they feel like they are having a massage. Lol.
