Does anyone else have a rabbit that shakes the bars of their cage? One of mine was a houdini with his original cage. With enough force he could push the door open. Now in the X pen at night and early morning Louie will rattle the whole cage. He has all the amenities he needs. So I guess its just a request to get out and play all night? Or he wants attention? It isnt a sign of unhappiness is it? The two girls in their with him don’t chew at the cage at all. It makes me feel kinda guilty for containing them but I dont want them out and about the house when I’m not awake or home. When he does it the hook to the johnny cash song comes to mind…

        "But I’m gonna break
        I’m gonna break my
I’m gonna break my rusty cage and run" hehe

i’m thinking he either wants out (which is not always possible at all hours of the day and night) or maybe he likes the noise?  some rabbits like noisy bells and rattles and things… maybe he’s one of them?  as long as he can’t get lose when he’s not supposed to…

some bunnies are cage rattlers! i don’t think it’s a sign of unhappiness, but often it’s saying something like let me out, i want attention or is it time for breakfast yet?

I guess he just likes the sound. And the attention as well. I have a bunch of baby rattles in the cage but no bells right now, they tore apart the two bell toys awhile back. heh. I’ll have to find another grassy bally with a bell inside. They LOVED it.
Yeah Louie is the mini rex in my avatar. He’s a super sweet boy, I love everything about the breed. He and your girl look pretty similar.

Coney rattles the door of his apartment, when he does that I usually let him out and he zooms across the house for a few minutes, flops on the couch and takes a nap. Aparently his apartment is not as comfy as our couch. He has been shaking the cage a lot lately. I have noticed that he is trying to shake the baby gate in the hall to. It doesn’t move but he still bites on it and tries to back up. I dare not put the plastic one in because he will eat through it I am sure.

Wiggles drove me absolutely whackers when I was working two jobs. For 2 weeks I barely slept at all, She was just lonely and wanted to play. So I found her a friend. But then the friend joined in. Thank goodness I loved them as much as I did… Lol. Once she bonded properly to the friend (piggie) she stopped.

I know that’s not the problem with yours though. Lol. And he has 2 girls too! What a greedy lil bugger  I guess he just loves being out of his cage that much. You can try putting some hanging toys in there that he can chew and rattle.

Lol I know that feeling all too well. My foster is doing that to me now.

I have a cage rattler as well. Usually he is rattling the cage because he is trying to get at my other boy bunny (his arch nemesis) across the room. I think they rattle the cage because they truly do think that by rattling and pushing they will eventually get the “obstacle” out of their way, and get to whatever it is that is interesting them on the other side of the room.

I think this is just a way of getting attention, possibly a buck who wants to breed. I also think that if they want to do it…they’re going to. In other words, having toys isn’t necessarily going to solve the problem…but it’s possible

I have a cage rattler too, when I’ve slept in past their usual out time, they usually start. If it is hormonally related, it is best to neuter the male bunnies and spay the females, that way you can help to avoid a behavior that is hard to cope with and you help prevent pet overpopulation.

My bunny Scamper chews on the bars and raddles them. He dose this to let us know we are being too slow in letting him out for play time, or to let us know he is upset when we have to miss a playtime for him because sometimes there is just not enough hours in the day but most of you know how that is.
