I feel so sad, she is not very old and was always the more effectionate one. She is suddenly hunched and looked like she is shivering and all bony. I can’t tell what’s wrong with her other then it looks like any minute now. she is trying to eat these treats i have for her but taking a long time. i’m keeping her in my room tonight![]()
I’m sorry, it always suck to watch a pet that you love so much die…
I know cause I experienced it myself…at least she was loved and lived
a good life.
Can you take her to the vet? I am so sorry, this is very sad.
I’m so confused, I;ve been holding her and feeding her since before I wrote the post and now she seems much better. oh god could she have just been cold? she still seems so bony though, she didn’t pee on me once and that’s unusual for the mice. I will admit it can be chilly in that other room and the temp has dropped some(we’ve had the heat on). it’s just she seems so lively all of the sudden, I think I may have to switch rooms sooner then I though. the bun room (with the gerbils & mice). I can always leave a space heater on for us but not when i am gone during the day. I just went & cleaned her cage and put some extra bedding & hay to keep her warm incase that’s all it was. Fingers crossed (I know mice don’t live very long) but she’ s still a baby.
awww
try giving her some sustinece an eyedropper w/ some sugar water? (as syrupy as you can make it) sometimes that helps w/ little guys like that. It can snap little squirrel babies back in a miraculous way. Little rodents energy stores burn up really quickly if they get cold. Do you have a heating pad you could put her on while you sleep? wrap her up in a hand towel on top the pad and put on one side of the tank or cage so she could climb away if it gets too hot.
Aw, I am so sorry. I know nothing about mice. Maybe there is small animal or mouse forum somewhere. Also, do you have a vet that may be able to help?
I don’t know anything about mice either, but really hope she’ll be ok. i’d also recommend calling your vet to see if they can help her.
You poor thing, and poor poor mousey. Perhaps try feeding a mush of Weetabix and milk, just so she’s getting a bit of sustinence. Any improvement today? I hope so.
Sadly our teeny weeny furry friends are susceptible to little strokes. 🙁 Huge love from over my way. 🙂
Your poor mouse. I hope she’s okay. I’ve had mice but don’t know much about these little creatures other than they are very cute. Healing vibes to your little brown mouse.
I don’t know much about mice either but it would make sense if the temp. is dropping for her to feel a little out of it, i think. Poor thing…How is she doing now? I hope she is feeling better.
she seems to be doing just fine today. she was hardly moving yesturday and now she running around happy as can be. though still not sure she is 100% but for sure better!
I had mice and gerbils a while back. For warmth take a somewhat shallow (at least one inch high, maybe two is she is a large mouse) tupperware bowl and take some fluff (like bedding for animals, I don’t know what it is called) and put it in there. Also put some scrap pieces of cloth, small maybe the size of your hand. She will shread them and add them to the nest. Mice like to make nests and she will make one in that bowl of fluff. If she is in a glass cage then you can take a heating pad and wrap/tape it to one of the sides to help add some heat. Keep it on low so it doesn’t over heat her. She might move her nest over to that if she is cold. If she is not drinking them you can add a little bit of tang to her water bottle. Very little tang maybe half a teaspoon for the whole bottle. If she is super skinny, add some crumpled crackers to her food and that will help add calories and she is bound to love them.
I hope your mouse friend is doing better! I babysat a couple mice a few months ago, I thought they were a lot of fun. I even had a little mouse play pen, that didn’t really work so well because they would climb up the sides, but I would let them climb up and into my hand, and then put them back into the play pen and they would do it over again. I also made them some obstacle courses out of papertowel rolls – it was a lot of fun!
so good to hear your mouse is doing fine!!!
Goodness, I’m so glad your mouse is doing better today! I have a couple of suggestions to help maintain your baby’s strength. I, too, highly recommend that you consult your vet right away. Even if your mouse seems fine, it’s always best to have the peace of mind to know that everything is officially okay.
If this happens again, try filling a dropper with a half and half mixture of a fruity flavored Pedialyte and water. Pedialyte is always on hand at our house in those little individual sipper bottles, ready to go just in case we need them. It’s formulated for children who are having diarrhea; it quickly replenishes electrolytes without too much sugar.
I would ask your vet to check your mouse for any type of parasitic presence, as well as any form of dehydration or diarrhea. In hamsters, it’s called "Wet Tail Disease" but the basic issue is simply that the small rodent animal cannot hold in liquids…they escape, along with any food and nutrients…faster than the little guy can take it in.
Also, if warmth is an issue, you can buy very inexpensive fleece at Wal-Mart to place at the bottom of the cage, underneath the bedding. It will get dirty, but it’s soft, cozy, and keeps warmth nicely.
I am rooting for your little mouse! I hope nothing major is wrong, and that it was just a case of bad shivers. Still, the fact that you can see the bones makes me feel concerned that something else may be going on. A vet check is the surest way to help take care of this little guy! ![]()
Hope your mouse gets better soon! You should brush your bunny and use the fur for her nest.
Dehydration in animals can cause shivers. That could be a reason for the shivers.
Amy, how is she doing now?
she seems to be doing just fine and alive & well, I’m wondering if I should just do what I did for the other mouse. I used a 10 galon tank and put a grid from the bunny cage (a left over) so she could still climb, maybe it’s just to breezy. I’ve only had gerbils for small animals and they are desert animals from what I was told so are use to both extremes. maybe the mice need more enclosed walls. that one has a bar cage so she could climb. Thank you everyone for the advise!
