I haven’t let myself get to attached to the black one cuz I know she is off limits (my neighbor is taking that one, but that’s a reason I should cuz I will get to see her plenty). the other 3 are getting attached to me though and me to them. the little one I feel needs someone like me though as far as being gentle as she seems so fragile. how do you folks foster regularly….the last cat I ended up keeping to….not by choice (kinda) no one else would put up with her !

My whole intent on fostering was to find new homes for my fosters and save more rabbits. You just want to screen very carefully their new home and do a home check so you can feel you’ve made the best possible decision for your fosters. Fostering can be very rewarding and very frustrating – it’s not as easy to find good homes as you hope and sometimes your rabbits get returned to you and it can all be a neverending cycle. You feel like you’ve taken one step ahead and then sometimes you take 2 steps back. I found it extremely hard to say no to taking rabbits from shelters or strays that needed a place but I finally realized that I had a commitment to the rabbits in my current care first and foremost. It is very expensive to foster – vet bills, hay and veggie bills, the cost for rabbit housing, ALOT of your time. I have not had a vacation in over 5 years because I don’t have any time or anyone I trust enough to care for my soon to be 14 rabbits again since I’m taking back 2 of my fosters (one of my 2 steps back) because the adopters are losing their home. It took me awhile into rescue to get a reality check and realize I could not save them all.

I honestly don’t know how people do it either. My first FOSTER became mine – Jack. And even if I took care of a bunny overnight or a few days, I had a very hard time letting go of. I am not suited. I am sure you have to look at the big picture, but I just feel so sorry for the individual that I can’t step back very easily.

Oh my Sarita, that is dedication! You must be pooped sometimes keeping up with all of them.  How very frustrating you are having trouble finding suitable forever homes for them.

Yeah, I know fostering animals is a good deed, I might do it if I had my own place
but at the same time, I would get sooooo attached I know that I would keep every
single pet I would foster! I alway see those guide dogs in training and I just think omg
they are going to be such great companions…but ohhh letting go is just so hard to do!

my thoughts exactly, the 3 that I seem more attached to seem so attached to eachother to that I feel bad possibly splitting them up on top of it.  I just feel that not enough people are informed about rabbits and i worry that even with screening that the 2 will end up in a bad home. I know the one is going to a good home once she is going to be spayed. The boy is staying with me for sure but the other 2 girls I just don’t know. I get sad thinking about parting from them, they get so happy to see me now whe nI walk in the room!!!!

The heartache is so hard.  I really hope that they the two girls find great homes Amy.  I’ll keep them in my thoughts.
