Hey, earlier today I found an ibuprofen on the floor, and it looked like honey had gotten a hold of it and was chewing on it, or something – and today she hasn’t been as active as she normally is.

When I pet her, she lets me, and for the most part doesnt freak out, and she’s been hanging out alot in her cage.

Should I be worried, and take her to the vet? Or could this just be her actually warming up to me?

I’m really worried, what do you guys think?

Call your vet right away! She is not acting normal and may be having a reaction. Honey could be OK, but it is hard to say with medicines and you may even want to call a poison control center. I’ll try to find more info.

As an alternate you can call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, there is a fee:

Call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center

The telephone number is (888) 426-4435. There is a $55 consultation fee for this service.

Be ready with the following information:
          – the species, breed, age, sex, weight and number of animals involved
          – the animal’s symptoms
          – information regarding the exposure, including the agent (if known), the amount of the agent involved and the time elapsed since the time of exposure.

Have the product container/packaging available for reference.

REMEMBER: Bunnies cannot vomit like a cat or dog to get the poison out so it is really, really important to consult a vet ASAP as they have treatments available. Most likely fluids will be administered, depending on what the properties are of the ingested product to flush their system.

Here is another # I do not know if they charge a fee:

          National Animal Poison Control
          Center 1-800-548-2423

Please let me know if everything is OK and updated. Remember, whenever in doubt, give the vet a call to see if it warrants taking your bun in. Bunnies will often be more aloof and to themselves if they are not feeling well as they like to "hide" their symptoms. They do this because they are used to being a prey animal and the predators like to single out the sick or injured animals because they have an easier go at them.

I looked up ibuprofen online – and saw a few sites where it mentioned ibuprofen dosage sizes for bunnies, but not anything that stated at what level it becomes toxic, so for that reason I would call a vet or emergency animal hospital and find out what they think you should do. If you are not sure how much she ate that is a concern because you don’t want her system to be overwhelmed with the ibuprofen!

Ok, Honey has been acting normal again – It might just be the new people that we had in the house that had her acting funny.

The pill didn’t have chunks missing from it… mostly just the coating was missing on parts.. I overreacted lol. I just love her so much I don’t want anything to happen to her!

It is always good to be diligent and the animal poison control center number is a good thing for everyone to have on hand. It’s good that it was just the coating but I bet you’re going to be extra careful now when you open a bottle of pills.
