I don’t know where this post should fall under so i will post it here.  We recently switched Elvira’s cage to a NIC cage and put vinyl flooring on the bottom.  We try to make it so that she can’t eat it but there has been spots that she has been chewing it up.  Is this REALLY bad for her?  i think some parts she swallows and some she doesn’t.  I try to fix it on the bottom of the cage, but there is nothing else i can think of to put on her steps instead so she doesn’t eat it.

Gina, it is definately not good that your bunny is eating vinyl. It is a non-digestable and does not break down in the gut of a rabbit. Hopefully it will pass through and not build up in her GI tract and cause an imapction. Have her poo’s been normal, has she been eating the same is is acting the same too? How about using some coroplast instead? Or if they are steps just some plain old pine board would be ideal and no worries if she nibbles on it. What are the dimensions of each step?

i am not sure if she is EATING it because there are little pieces everywhere, but i know that i shouldnt chance it.  i called a few plastic places and they all acted like i was crazy when i asked for the cloroplast, like they wouldn’t sell it to me because i wasn’t a business and there was a $75 surcharge.  HA!

where else can i get it? or where can i get this pine board?

the steps are about 36 inches long and maybe 14 inches across (approximately)

            any suggestions are appreciated.

is plexiglass the same thing as cholorplast?

do they sell these sheets at a lowes or something like that?

Plexiglas is a different material.  Plexiglas is a clear (but scratches easily) plastic sheet that is somewhat difficult to cut.  It is very slippery, it would be useful for the walls of a condo if for some reason you want to block something (like to keep hay in).  Coroplast is a corrugated plastic board, very light, easy to cut.  You would have the best luck finding it at a printing place.  Anyone know if Kinko’s carries it?

OK, well it sounds like your bun has not ingested it, or very little so you should be OK. You can get regular pine boards and cut them to size at your local hardware store that carries lumber and some will even cut the boards for you if you have the dimensions. Unfortunately I have not found any pine boards that ar 14″, I have found 12″ ones but I have resorted to cutting the pieces from larger sheets of pine. The plexi glass would work too, I know that there are pre-cut 12″x14″ ones at Home Depot and anywhere will have larger pieces you can cut yourself. I can’t believe the quotes you got for the coroplast. Do you know any real estate agents that have old signs made of it?
