Not sure if this is the correct section to put this in, I hope so, if not I’m sorry….

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if Rabbits Blink? And do they sleep with there eyes closed?

In 2 months I have never seen Honey blink and never seen her with her eyes closed, unless I am say patting or rubbing her near her eye to kind of make it close if you understand.

        Just courious really.

        Thanks guys.

My bun doesn’t blink very often. Sometimes he naps with his eyes open too. It’s nothing to be worried about.

AHAHAHA You just had my partner and myself in prolonged histerical laughter!!! Well done!!

On a side note my bunny always sleeps with her eyes closed and quite usually snoring too, haha, takes a bit to wake her up, you have to knock on the cage to check she is still alive, lol.

Well I’m glad I gave you all a little bit of entertainment with that question 🙂

But I was very serious in asking it, I haven’t seen her close her eye’s at all and that is just creepy!!!!

As long as you guys don’t think its a problem, and it doesn’t seem to be as in no eye issues etc, I guess it might just be normal.

                    Thanks again.

I watched my bunny blink today, I noticed though they do it very very slowly, lol, as if they are too scared to close their eyes for a split second because the boggy monster might get em. They dont close completely just enough to wet most of the eye. lol, such a crack up.

My bunnies didn’t seem to blink when I first got them. Also, they slept with their eyes open for a loooong time. I think they need to feel super secure and know their surroundings very well before they are ready to sleep with the eyes closed. It took mine about 3-4 months before they started sleeping with their eyes closed. Once they did though they started bunny “dreaming” and one of mine chews in his sleep, and one bounces all around. Its pretty funny!

Nel never seems to blink though she does close her eyes when she’s being petted (even if it’s not on the head). I think she naps with her eyes open but she usually sleeps in her igloo, so I can’t be sure if she sleeps open eyed or closed. If you want to see creepy, imagine those big red eyes just gazing blankly at you.

She did once have a nightmare though. She immediately ran to the middle of the room and started thumping franticly. It took her half an hour to calm down.

Oh my Daffodil has red eyes and it can be a bit creepy when the light hits them just so, almost demonic-like.

And yes, Alibear bunnies do blink but only a couple of times a minute, weird huh? That’s a very good question! My two sleep with their eyes closed in blissful and carefree slumber. No worries about what section you put your question in, we’ll respond!

I am still yet to see my bunny blink, but it seems that one day I will – hopefully!

You are all wonderful – thanks for replying 🙂

Bunnies sleep with thier eyes open to stay alert for predators. When a bunny is truly safe in thier enviroment they will lose all of thier inhibitions and close them. I think they also have an overactive tear duct to keep the eye from drying out as well. A defense for prey animals. Kind of like horses sleeping standing up. Helps for a quick getaway.

God MSBOND!!!!! Your bunny looks like Courtney Love after a weeklong bender!

I’m not sure about the sleeping bit, I cant’ really see her when she is sleeping she usually tucks herself away in her hutch bed area, but def no blinks yet. I’m just going to have to keep staring at her and hope I don’t freak her out in the mean time 🙂
