that happens to my bun. i think it’s normal though.

I have only noticed that their stomach gurgles for a a few seconds, I have not listened for it though and have not noticed that it does it for a couple of minutes.  So when you say audible, how close are you? 

Actually, a bunny’s digestive system should always be gurgling – but very very lightly.  You should always be able to put your ear to their stomach and listen carefully, and soon you’ll hear gurgling.   A silent tummy is not good.  A LOUD gurgling where you can hear it from nearby is not good, unless they’ve just been drinking, as I hear them swallowing and a gurgle that follows – the only thing that I haven’t noticed is it happening for more than a minute.   I am figuring it’s normal for some, but I haven’t ever been asked this question, so I’ll just ask my rabbit expert friends to be sure, or to at least find out, even if it’s normal, why it would happen with some and not others. 

Out of curiosity, is he a different breed, and is he much larger than your other bunnies?  

Anyone else notice this with their bunny?

Binky Bunny, do you think that the gurgling could be that the rabbit is gulping a lot of air drinking out of a bottle, much like a baby that you have to burp after feeding? This is what I’ve heard anyway and am a big advocate of the crock for water, they seem to drink more too if it is not out of a bottle.

Frankie’s tummy does this sometimes when he drinks too. It always cracks me up… I’m a dork.

Hmmm, interesting, don’t see why not.  I am going to be asking this question at the rabbit rescue tomorrow.  Since all of them drink out of a bottle, I will ask the people there what their experiences are.

Regarding the crock, yes, I also have read that they drink more that way.  I actually offer both, and Jack & Rucy prefer the crock (right now that’s all they have until I can get the the petstore and buy another bottle since their last one started leaking)   Bailey always manages to step in hers.  It’s heavy, but because she has a clumsy walk, she always ends up getting wet, so for her I only offer the bottle now.  But any other time, I just offer both (just in case something gross falls into the crock or just in case the water bottle leaks or stops working , I should be covered.)

Oh poor Bailey, oh I definately think the bottles are useful too but need to be replaced far too often because of leaks, at least in my experience. I can’t wait to hear what the experience of the people at the rescue is. Crock water does need to be changed more often and bottle stays cleaner which is a definate plus, especially at a rescue.
