I can see the advantage of putting the coroplast base INSIDE my bunny’s cage, but will the bunny chew on it???  I had decided to go ahead and order my base, but the one lady I was thinking of buying from stated that it needs to go on the outside or else the rabbit will chew on it.

I’m way too confused about this!!!

Some rabbits will chew on it and others will not. That’s partly why I went with the plexi-glass instead as it is solid and won’t get chewed to bits. My two chew on just about anything, in fact they destroyed a fly swatter once. Can you test it with your bunny, like say can the lady mail you a small sample?

well, in my bunny’s house it’s on the inside and goes right to the edge, so there’s not really a way for them to get at the sides to chomp it. i did have some on the top floor, since it’s a stand alone step and they were chewing it, so i took it off the step and just put a sheepskin up there to protect their feet. but in over a year, they have not chomped the sides of the floors at all.

i can’t see how effective it would be on the outside of the grate, since then what is protecting your bun’s feet?  plus what a pain to try and get stray poops out of the grate!

Well, we did end up ordering one that goes on the outside to prevent any possible chewing.

As far as the wire under their feet, there is NONE as we opted for a floorless cage (which is incredibly sturdy and strong, by the way).

We put coroplast pieces on our 2nd and 3rd floors (old real estate signs that we had lying around that we cut up), and we covered these with fleece, put cut to length PVC pipe underneath, and installed.  (Actually, I still have three more pieces to install…hopefully this upcoming week.

Anyhow, I feel good about our decision.  We will be buying several cheap, washable throw rugs to put in the bottom.  I think we’ve got things worked out.  Or at least we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

              Thanks,

              Terry

                Hi Terry,

Keep us posted how your bunny does with the coroplast floor.
